ldap support
I was curious what the status of the ldap support is in 2.0.5a and where
I can get more information on what characteristics this requires in the
ldap database.

/etc/ssh/shosts.equiv ignored?
I'm trying to replace ssh 1.2.27 with openssh 1.2.1-pre*
It seems that a openssh client accessing any openssh/ssh server I've setup
always results in a password prompt.
It also seems that a openssh server requires ssh clients to provide a
password regardless of the entries in the /etc/ssh/shosts.equiv file. If
I shut off the openssh server and run a ssh server then normal ssh client

some win machines see samba, some not.
Hello,
I have this big problem which bothers me for past week(s).
I have setup a simple samba network on win95 only net and
it worked fine.
This time I try to setup a samba on a network having win98
WinNT 4.0 sp4 and WinNT4.0 WS SP 5.
I believe all machines are on the same local net.
I have tried both samba 2.0.5a (RH6.1 default) as well as
samba 2.0.7.
I can use 'smbclient'

Disabling storeing of cached profiles?
Hello!
I know that this is not samba related, but may be some one knows a
quick answer:
When using profiles, stored on a well running samba-2.0.0beta2 PDC,
the NT PC's cache the profile during a user session. As this
profile is not deleted on the PC and we have a lot of users with only
few PC's we need a lot of diskspace for this old profiles.
Is there a way (Registry Key, ..) that

Passwords and NT
I have searched the archives and the internet and found nothing on this
topic but I know it's a known issue. Second I would like to say this has
nothing to do with NTDOM.
I am running a samba server 2.0.0 on a freebsd box. I am connecting to the
server using windows 9x and NT clients. I have hacked the windows
registries to enable clear text passwords across the lan. The problem is

How to set Netscape enviroment on Samba home drive ?

You get this kind of stuff by default with roaming profiles.( ie
user.dat or ntuser.dat ) If you are referring to netscape 4 then just
point the profile to the home directory (mapped to a consistent drive

smbclient (1.9.18p3) dies or needs killing when used for backups (via Amanda)
Has anyone noticed that there appears to be a few
problems with regards to Samba and in particular the
usage of smbclient, which can do one of the following :
1) Complete & udder death of the NT networking subsystem
(which requires a reboot to cure)
2) smbclient appears to lose its connection with the
host being contacted and eventually needs to be
killed.
I'm not too sure how

NT Groups
Hi,
Im running samba-2.0.4b.
Is there a way or granting access to shares using the NT SAM (global
groups)?
Currently I have to add users to the unix server, then add them to a GID. I
hope there is an easier way!
Thanks

Transferring user profiles to new domain
It's been a while, but as I remember "Teach Yourself Samba in 24 Hours" by
Gerald Carter and Richard Sharpe has an entire chapter which walks you
through this process.

nt acl support = no ???
'llo,
It was suggested that I added "nt acl support = no" to my smb.conf file,
in order to get rid of the "error packet at line 588 cmd=115
(SMBsesssetupX)eclass=2 ecode=2" error.
(Apparently it has something to do with Word's temporary files that are
created with mode 000
which stops it from completing a file save.)
I added this to my smb.conf file

Cross-validating two matrices
Hello,
I am trying to help a colleague with an R problem (see below) to whit
I can only generate a very inelegant solution. Any advice would be
welcome.
Thanks,

If you have two matrices, say a species by trait matrix (Matrix 1

straightforward way to prune one matrix so that the species list

How to "Pack" a matrix
Hello,
Suppose I have a matrix a where
a= sp1 sp2 sp3 sp4 sp5 sp6

site3 1 1 1 1 1 1
site4 0 1 1 1 0 1
site5 0 0 1 0 0 1
site6 0 0 1 0 1 0
And I want to pack that matrix so that the upper left corner contains
most of the ones and the bottom right corner contains most of the zeros
so that matrix b is

PANIC: assert failed.
Hi all,
We are using Samba 2.0.0beta5 on HP-UX 10.20 systems. We also use encryption and password checking on the NT 4 boxes. Everything works fine except for a few persons. When connecting to a samba share from an NT 4 client they get "unexpected network error". The contents of the last part of the samba log file are:
