samba not seen from wins server
I have Samba 2.2.8 running on Debian Woody for S390. I am trying to connect via the wins server list that is on a win 2000 wins server, but I don't see my linux server in the list. I can ping and search and find the server by name. I looked in the log.nmdb for messages, but the file is not being created. Following is my smb.conf file # Samba config file created using SWAT # from

logon script won't start anymore after update 2.2.3a -> 2.2.8.a
Dear list, last friday I had a frustrating experience during the update of my samba server. I've been running samba since 1998, now there are 50 users with win2k-boxes attached - the samba server acting as PDC. Becauce of a swap of the old server I finally decided to update to 2.2.8a. What I did (in general): - installed the new server with suse 8.2 prof - Installed the suse-rpms for

installing Samba as non-root user at work - please help.
Hi, I've recently started at a new company that doesn't have a system in place to map my Linux home directory within Windows. I have my own Linux box (a recent Redhat install), and my own Windows XP PC. I will get no help from a system admin here, so my only option is to try installing Samba myself on my Linux box. To my surprise, I've found little or no information on installing

"Secret is bad" -- Winbind with Samba 2.2.2 and Windows 2000 (native mode)
I'm having problems getting "Secret is bad" with the command "wbinfo -t". I get good results with "wbinfo -u", "wbinfo -g", and "wbinfo -m". I also have positive results with all the samba tests in DIAGNOSIS.txt. I've tried deleting the computer account and recreating many times on my Windows 2000 Domain Controller (everything is native

WINS name resolution doesn't work
I've set up my Samba PDC to act as a WINS server, because I need remote access to it (through a VPN connection). I put "wins support = Yes" into the smb.conf file. As far as I know, WINS doesn't use a unique port number, so enabling the usual NetBIOS ports (137/udp, 138/udp, 139/tcp) on the firewall should be enough to make WINS work. I did this already. I tried to connect to a

Can't get Samba to work as a print/file server
Hi everyone, I'm new at this, been through all of the troubleshooting guides without any luck. So here I am. smb.conf looks like this: # smb.conf is the main Samba configuration file. You find a full commented # version at /usr/share/doc/packages/samba/examples/smb.conf.SuSE # Date: 2003-09-23 [global] workgroup = CORBIN netbios name = CORBIN1 [data] comment =

multiple connections failure
Sorry to bother those of you who are faced with issues probably not as trivial my concern, but I am hitting a brick wall. I am upgrading from Samba 2.2.5 to 3.0.14a on a Solaris 8 box. I have configured, run make, makepkg and installed using pkgadd. I am using the same smbpasswd file and smb.conf file I used with 2.2.5. However, these files are now in the /etc/samba directory rather than the

Don't forget to use a full stop after them like: hosts allow 192.168.1. 192.168.2. or you could write it like: hosts allow 192.168.1.0/24 192.168.2.0/24 > =A0 =A0 Okay, let me ask one basic question at a time. > > =A0 =A0 I "was thinking" that I didn't have to actually mount samba > (smbmount) in the past, back years

Browsing weird problem
Hi samba list. We have installed two unix machines running samba 2.2.2. Also, we have a NT server with an nt domain. Both samba servers belongs to TESTGROUP (we don't want to put samba into a nt domain). The things works fine, until we include two pc-clients into the same group. Those pcs cannot browse the network, also, they cannot see itself. The problem was solved when we include

Desiring to set up Windows Vista and Linux Fedora Core 4
Greetings! Tonight is unfortunately the first small bit of time I've had to even try to get Samba configured between my Vista and my Linux FC4. (My mother as well as my extremely limited home time dealing with important things are my main delays.) It's not going well. :-) I have added hosts allow with 192.168.1 and 192.168.2. I have experimented with a few things. I

NMDB not bound to 127.0.0.1
After updating Samba from 3.0.20 to 3.0.21c NMDB is only bound to my NIC's IP but no longer to 127.0.0.1 though my smb.conf parameters are interfaces = 127.0.0.1, 192.168.x.x/255.255.255.0 bind interfaces only = yes As a result SWAT does not show the status of NMDB any longer. Any idea which parameters are different to 3.0.20 or is this a bug in 3.0.21c?

Changing SWAT user?
I just loaded Mandrake 7.1 and Samba with Webmin. I can get into Webmin and make changes to the Samba server, but I'm not able to get smbd or nmbd running. When I try to get into SWAT to make changes it keeps reverting back to my login which does not allow me to make changes. Is there a way to reset this? Also, any ideas on why smdb and smdb is not running? (go easy on me. I'm new to

NFS not responding generates authantication crash
I am facing dovecot authentication problems caused by unresponding NFS server. If there is even short break in communication with NFS server keeping maildirs, the dovecot generates the avalanche of processes (dovecot/imap and dovecot/pop3). The real number of connections was about 50 and after the problems occurs it rises to 1000. After about 3 hours the limit of connections is filled up:

smbd won't start - new installation
Hi all, I installed SuSe 9.1 with Samba 3.0.4-suse. I can not get the smbd to start from swat, but nmbd is running, When I start smdb and nmbd with the SWAT restat then ps -A shows that the processes are there and it seems to run, but not according to the 'status' of swat. Copying files from samba and printing with the shared printers work though. The printers show "access denied, no

Concurrent logon problem...
Hi you all, We are currently setting up a corporate wide file server using Samba 2.0.6 on a RedHat Linux Alpha platform. We only have Win98 clients, and the Samba server is doing net logons (no password encryption) and master browsing for the workgroup. The problem we have is that NMDB dies when a logon occurs with a username which is already logged. After that, Win98 freezes when you try to log
