Microsoft Word 2000 on Win2k
I have Windows 2000 already installed on another hard drive and am
trying to run Word 2000... my wine version is from the 10th of this
month. Has anyone had any luck with such a setup? Does anyone have any
tips? I keep getting the error (in a windows dialog) "This application
requires the Windows installer to run" - I really don't want to

Q. for Samba gurus.
Hi,
I want to use Samba as a 'special' printer server only, namely a
FAX print server for Win-95 and Win-NT systems. The users on these
systems must be registered in my Unix /etc/passwd file.
I noticed a difference in behaviour between Win-95 and Win NT
that prevents me from reaching my goal.
With Win-95, the spool file is created as 'user', with Win-NT the
spool file is created

Configuring printer drivers
Hi,
I've been running a samba server for our small group of users (about 15) for
approx the last 18 months with great success. We use the server for both file
and printer sharing.
I had to make some modifications to the printer configuration today, and I've
got a quick question which arose from my tinkering.
I wanted to configure the server such that each of our printers can be used

troubles printing from windows98 to a samba printer
Hello I have this problem with printing to a HP Laser Jet 4L set up on my
linux box which is the local samba server for the intranet. I can only
print as root or as a user admin user = thatuser.
I need to be able to set a password for the printer and only those users
to use the printer who know the password. Or a similar solution.
As ordinary user Windows98 says:

I am having a problem with my wife's Win98 box not being able to see or use
the printer on our printserver running samba 2.2.2. The printer is using CUPS

Win 9x and WinNT Clients connecting to Samba-Server
Hello,
I know I should get rid of the problem by my own, but unfortunally I failed.
So I ask:
I`ve a subnet of win9x and WinNT clients connecting to our Linux file
server (no more servers in this subnet)
via samba 2.02. All win95 can see and mount services of the Samba server.
But win98 and WinNT can only see the server but can not connect to a service.
I`ve no encryption and security= user in

Hi there,
I'm trying to get the game Halflife working with Wine.
I downloaded the latest Wineversion with CVS.
I built it with :
# ./configure --prefix=/usr/wine --enable-opengl
# make depend && make && make install
Then I insert the halflife cdrom and do:
# mount /mnt/cdrom
# cd /mnt/cdrom
# wine SETUP.EXE
It loads up the Halflife install wizard (progressbar goes from 0 to

Strange "No permission to access resource" msgs from win95
Hi,
I've been using Samba for a while in lots of places and this is
the first time I've encountered this problem:
I'm using 1.9.18p7 on solaris-2.6, there's a large PC network here with
win95 and winNT machines all belonging to a different workgroup then the
samba machine. There are no problems with the winNT clients. However, the
win95 machines sometimes give the following

NT4 and Samba (ref: newbie question)
Ariel,
This area is a bit of a mystery to me too. I think the story is as
follows and if it isn't please will someone who sees this correct me!
Win95/98 and WinNT do not login to the server is the same way.
Win95/98 works fine with a network login with Samba 1.9.18P10
and many previous versions, but WinNT requires a true NT
Domain Controller to login.
So with WinNT you cannot use server

Unicode in client? (was c cedilla problem)
Hi,
A few days back I wrote a message to this list complaining about c cedilla
problems in filename with Samba as a client to WinNT.
I got no replies, but after a better look into the problem, I found out it
wasn't the ? "c cedilla" that was the problem, but the ? ("a" tilde) that
follows it in (too) many Portuguese words.
After hours of protocol traces with samba and

Win95 on a Samba3+LDAP domain on a Debian box
Hi folks,
I have successfuly migrated a WinNT 4.0 Domain to a Debian server with
Samba3+Ldap following the Samba-3 by Example guide from John H. Terpstra (an
impressive good guide) and The Linux Samba-OpenLADP Howto from Jerome Tournier &
Olivier Lemaire.
The domain holds about 800 accounts. There are WinNT servers, WinXP and Win95
clients belonging to it.

cut and paste problem
Dear all,
I am new to wine and try to use it to replace vmware for
word/powerpoint applications. The first problem that I encounter is
that I am unable to cut and paste under all the applications
(notepad/word/powerpoint).
It seems that the issue is related to the clipboard behavior because
when I cut (under notepad) I get an error message stating: "Empty clipboard".
Which is kind of

NT - Not allowed from this workstation
I am the sysadmin in an office with an overabundance of Win95 machines and
a few NT 4.0 workstations. All installs went relatively easy for logon
scripts, wins, etc. I have run into a semi-serious problem with 2 of the
3 NT workstations. (All running the same service pack - 1).
When trying to make a share from one of the 2 remaining workstations, I
will recevie an error message saying that:

Wine and WinNT wine.conf dumb question
Hi,
I've just installed Wine 20010305 on a box with SuSE 7.1 (kernel 2.4.2) and
Win NT4.0. I previously ran wine with no problems under SuSE 7.0. Now when
I try to start wine I get the error:
Invalid path 'C:\winnt' for windows directory: does not exist.
This is using the same wine.conf file as before. Here are the relevant
lines from the wine.conf file:
