I am the sysadmin in an office with an overabundance of Win95 machines and a few NT 4.0 workstations. All installs went relatively easy for logon scripts, wins, etc. I have run into a semi-serious problem with 2 of the 3 NT workstations. (All running the same service pack - 1). When trying to make a share from one of the 2 remaining workstations, I will recevie an error message saying that: The account is not authorized to login from this workstation. I have tried to force the issue by adding a "allow hosts" entry into the smb.conf, but I still get the same message. My hope was that someone else has setup NT workstations in their office and has run into this same problem. By seeing one out of the three workstations not having a problem, I am led to beleive it is a WinNT config problem, although all settings are identical on the surface. Anyone have some ideas? NT - Not allowed from this workstation

After a two-day fight with samba servers, NT workstations, NT servers and win95 clients we finally found a config that will serve all of these... Compile the latest samba so it has the correct libaries for dealing with NT encrypted passwords. *Don't* set encrypt passwords = yes (otherwise some win95 clients can't get in). Do use smbpasswd to set passwords for people. So far (fingers crossed) this works for us and lets users locally and remote access our servers. Try re-enabling "Plain Text Passwords"; read the WinNT.txt file in the Samba/docs directory: Run regedt32.exe and locate the hive key entry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\CurrentControlSet\Services\Rdr\Parameters\ Add the following value: EnablePlainTextPassword:REG_DWORD=1
