NT Crashes when doing large network file Xfers (was Re: NT crashes during smbtar)
Ernie, Thanks for the great info.. Based on what you were seeing, would you suspect that part of the problem is with the combination of NT and the 3com card (3c595)? Currently, we are ONLY seeing this under NT Workstation (not server) and almost all of our machines have this same 3com 3c595 card (only if using 100BaseT).. -- Rick -----Original Message----- From: Ernie Oporto

automatically authenticate domain logged-on users ina pache with AD/NTDOM?
Yeah, "interoperate over either NTLM or Kerberos to provide SSO", that's exactly what I'm talking about! Only, I want to trade IIS for apache@unix. I can still use Explorer@windows for clients. Very interesting, though, that Mozilla has been kerberized. I knew it would happen, but I haven't read anything about that. Thanks for the input, Palle --On fredag 22 oktober

2.0.4, still oplock_break failures
Hi! Even with 2.0.4, I'm still seeing a lot of oplock break failures (clients failing, see log further down). The client hangs for approx 30 secs (sometimes more) and then gets back online. At least one user can't use the file shares at all; it hangs whatever he does, and on any computer he uses (NT or 98, laptop, desktop...) Other users have less problems, but maybe they are less

samba-des has bad performance
Hello! I have a problem with samba. I run the freebsd samba-des port (samba-des-1.9.17.4) in a pretty much vanilla setting; home dir, a few shared dirs, no printing (yet). The problem is performance. While Samba is not terribly slow it's still too slow. Copying large files takes about half a minute/meg on an Ethernet LAN with no other activity. Trying to read a file using netscape

automatically authenticate domain logged-on users in apache with AD/NTDOM?
Hi! I don't use MS products at all, so I have very little knowledge with them, but I believe Microsoft has as protocol where Internet Explorer can automatically authenticate against an IIS server, and given that the server and client are on the same NT domain, and the client user is logged in to that domain, the user is automatically logged in without the need to give away the password

NT Crashes when doing large network file Xfers (was Re: NT crashes during smbtar)
Ok.. Just for the record, I STAND CORRECTED! The problem does appear to be NT.. The thing that irritated me was that nobody was interested in giving any backup data! Everyone just wanted to blindly admit that it must be NT. Ok.. Enuf bitching.. On to the better stuff... Anyway, David Mansfield and I are trying to narrow down the machine configurations where this happens.. Currently, we've

Using Amanda + Samba to backup NT4 servers?
Hi all, Has anyone used amanda in combination with samba to back up an NT4 server system? I'm able to connect to the server with both smbclient and smbtar on the command line, but I can't get amanda to connect. Supposedly amanda uses smbclient and smbtar to perform the backups. I'm continually getting the following error from amcheck: ERROR: amanda: [PC SHARE //servername/share

can some people point to me to good tape backup and software...
Hi all, Being recently new to Samba. I want to know what some of you consider a really good tape backup. And, what software to run it with. I want to be able to offer customers daily full backups that the restores will work well with Samba. My understanding is smbtar only uses tar. Is there something even web based I can use. smclient-excludes
Hello, samba-users, I am using Amanda to backup WinNT-shares. Amanda uses smbclient to generate smbtar-archives which it then writes to tape. As you all know there are various files on Windows-system-partitions that don?t need to be on backup. For example stuff like pagefile.sys System Volume Information hiberfil.sys and the registry files. So there is a need to exclude files from getting

Need help diagnosing ERRbadfile messages
Hi all, I posted this to the list a few weeks ago but got no response. I'm running Amanda and smbtar and trying to back up some files on a Windows 2000 machine. I've verified that the files it's trying to back up are NOT open and permissions are fine for it to be backed up. This is a sample of the messages: ? code 0 opening remote file \ebsco-1064\cueanalysisnew.zip

Lots of ERRbadfile and Expected SMBtrans2 responses with smbclient
Hi all, I am using Amanda and smbtar for backing up Windows machines. However, in addition to the errors I get on open files (which is to be expected), I am getting errors on files that should be fine to access. Here is a snippet from the Amanda log which contains smbclient errors: ? code 0 opening remote file \ebsco-1064\cueanalysisnew.zip (\ebsco-1064\) ? Expected SMBtrans2 response, got

smbtar question?
Hi all, I want to move a filesystem off of my NT server over to my Network Appliance NFS server to then be shared via Samba. I assume the easiest way to accomplish this would be to use smbtar. Do I then use smbtar to extract the tar file I create with smbtar, or, can I use gnutar? Does it matter? Am I safer sticking with smbtar? I'm guessing that since smbtar is a wrapper around

smbtar skips files, why?
Hello, I'm using Samba version 1.9.18p10. I am trying to backup a Win95 disk with smbtar, but it skips lots of files without any apparant reason. For example, I have a directory C:\Acrobat3, with various subdirectories. With smbclient I can see and browse them just fine: smb: \> cd Acrobat3 smb: \Acrobat3\> dir . D 0 Wed Aug 19
