Text/Binary Files. HELP!!!
I am sure someone must have come across this.
Is it possible to force files to binary when copying to Unix directories.
NT -> Unix. Text Files have got ^M in them. How do we prevent this
happening. Would forcing to binary fix the problem & if so how would this
be done?
Thanks

lmhosts questions (answered?)
First, thanks for all the replies to my plaintive cries for help;
some of this gets a little frustrating when you're trying to do it
from the seat of one's pants (as it were). Also, a big thanks to
the samba team members (one of these days, I'll have to look into
that pizza voucher thing...).
I looked through all the docs, mail archives, etc, and the only

Newbie to Samba - getting '^M' characters from NT into PVCS o n UN IX
Hello Tony,
Samba isn't the 'culprit', just the media used. Samba does NOT insert
anything into the files that you copy over or have an application create
on a samba share.
The issue is that you are using a PC program to check out/modify the files,
and pc os'es (Win/dos, i mean) use crlf as a ascii line terminator. Unix
uses a lf only. So when you view the files with a pc

/etc/lmhosts
Has anyone had any luck with lmhosts.
I'm trying to avoid using the -I 192.168.1.10 to identify a Win95 machine
when using smbmount
Is there an option I need to set in Samba to tell it to use /etc/lmhosts?

Sometime cannot connect to samba server, Why
Hi,
I believe it's mentioned in one of the docs with the samba distro,
that this problem can happen, when you have File and print services
enabled on the PC's using a protocol _other_ than tcp/ip like NETBUI or
IPX. Samba use's TCP/IP only.

Client on dos
I need to use a samba server (linux redhat 6.0 ) from a diskless dos
machine ( has a floppy drive for booting) . So i need a very little
tcp-ip stack for dos and a client for a NT server on dos so that they
will be small enough to be on a 1.44 system floppy.
Is that possible ?

Scheduler Mechnisms!
Hello,
Normally, in addition to such qdisc scheduler mechanisms as FIFO, PQ, WRR, WFQ,
are there any more? Then, there is a confusion on scheduler in Linux enviroment:
Assume there is a qdisc, such as RED as a leaf qdisc in a router, we know, if
there is packet which want to enqueue the packet, the Function red_enqueue is
called, but when the packet leave the queue(when the Function red_dequeue

PC Backup Script?
I am trying to setup my Sun running samba 1.9.18p10 so that it can
backup my dept's PCs. I can get it to work manually using the
smbclient command with no problem. What I would like to do is have
a script that is able to take a list of PCs, determine if a PC is online,
backup that PC, then move on to the next one. If a PC is down,
it can report an error to the admin to state that the

is it a bug or a feature? re:time zone differences, laptops, and suggestion for a new option
It's much easier than that. The linux box keeps time in GMT, and displays
it in the configured time zone. Try this, on the linux box:
"touch testfile
ls -l testfile
TZ=EST5
export TZ
ls -l testfile"
You will see the displayed time change, because it's being translated from
epoch time (that's what I call it, anyway) - seconds since midnight,

I require urgent assistance on a problem I am having with Samba 1.9.18
on AIX 4.1.5. It seems that upon make install the
/usr/local/samba/var/locks directory is not created and upon setting up
inetd.conf and executing a kill -1 {pid of inetd} the locks directory
still does not exist, no log files are created and STATUS..LCK is not
created.
I execute

Okay, been working with tripack, seems the most mature package for this. Got it to work well with their test data set - data(tritest). When i tried random numbers to explore further, i am getting some results that don't reconcile.
example run this:
library(tripack)
y <- runif(100)
x <- runif(100)
vm <- voronoi.mosaic(x,y)
plot(vm)
par(new=T)
plot(x,y,col='blue')

samba 1.9.18 swat
Hello
Our customer wants to use SWAT with Samba.
On z/OS 1.2 we have in Unix System Services Samba Version 1.9.18 from 1999. In this release there is no SWAT-function.
What should we do to implement SWAT in this environment ?
Best regards

Samba 1.9.18 on Unixware 2.1.2, Makefile problem (& solution, sorta)
Hello Samba gurus: I apologize if I'm not following some established
protocol, I'm pretty new to samba and to this list. I just tried
compiling samba 1.9.18 on UnixWare 2.1.2 and ran into a problem with
UnixWare's /usr/ccs/bin/cc: it doesn't deal with the "-o" option in
combination with the "-c" option well at all. It either ignores the
