Has anyone had any luck with lmhosts. I'm trying to avoid using the -I 192.168.1.10 to identify a Win95 machine when using smbmount Is there an option I need to set in Samba to tell it to use /etc/lmhosts? The path /etc/lmhosts is not the good one. The right location is /usr/local/samba/lib/lmhosts if you installed samba in /usr/local/samba. The syntax is: IP.Add.ress NetBIOS_name -C. Dumont
I have noticed that if this file exists on my system my samba server does not function correctly. It stops responding to all requests from all machine on the network except for itself! nmblookup hontas produces a "name failed" response, but smbclient -L works. No other win95/98 or Unix machine can access it at all. The same thing happens if i set resolve name order (i forget the proper name of the var) to host wins bcast lmhosts. instead of the default lmhosts host wins bcast. has anyone else noticed behaviour like this?
Additional questions 1. Does anyone have a good sample of the lmhosts file ? If yes, could you please post one in the list ? 2. I have set my samba server to act as a wins server too. Does this require that lmhosts file be present ? Thank you. Panyarak Ngamsritragul Department of Mechanical Engineering Prince of Songkla University.
