How should i install it.What I have done so far is copy the whole thing, or all you want from Office 97's CDROM to a share. Then from each win95 client, I just executed 'setup' and when asked for the mode of install, I chose 'Run from CDROM'. Anyway, using this method each client still have to sacrify about 40MB for full installation. It is a good trade when compared to 210MB something if you install in each machine without sharing resources. Panyarak
Hi, I am a Linux fan from China. I installed Red Hat 5.1 on my Pentium MMX 200 computer these days. I encountered a fatal mistake when I use samba to share my Linux source with windows 95. I checked the available manual, but I cannot overcame the error. The error message reported by the Linux box when I run the shell command " smbclient -L myhost" is as follow: ************** load_client_codepage: filename /etc/codepages/codepage.850 does not exist added internet address .... Session requesti failed (0,0) with... Unspecified error 0X0 Your server software is being unfriendly. ************** Would you tell me the role of the codepages ? How to get them? Thank you for your attention. Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Sincerely Yours Mao Wentao
I am experiencing an odd error that I can't seem to track down. When I try to access a samba share I get a network busy error, if I try to access anyother computer on the network, I don't get this error -- Michael D. Risser -- Linux Admin/Webmaster -- Machine Vision Products --The box said "Requires Windows 95 or better," so I installed Linux.

Hello samba.org! I'm working with Samba 2.0 and got a problem. I'm using ipchains as firewall, and cannot set valid settings. Trying open ports 139 udp, 137 tcp and 138 tcp doesn't work, users cannot access samba servises from other ethernet. It's not a bug, but following documentation does not contain an answer. Could You help? -- Best regards, eu2 barks2000@mail.ru

hi guys. this yesterday i was working on my samba server (which is now sorta working as a domain controller, FINALLY). but everytime a user tries to login access is denied and a message is added into /var/log/messages: "cannot access passdb". just that. no more, no less. any ideas. users are starting to need the server very much. I think the version is 2.2.02? I reinstalled samba this morning. same problem. The problem doesn't exist if it isn't used as a domain controller though. there's the catch! I need it as a domain controller. And running by Monday morning! I've used it as is from the SuSE 8.0 installtion. Don't know how to recompile and so far behind schedule that I can afford to mess up! got over 300 users on. Don't want to lose them if possible. Just gotten used to this version and skittish of change now (because of time constraints)! smbpasswd file is in the default /etc/samba/ and it's rights have not been changed since installation. All users are listed in passwd file as well. Any of this making sense? extract from the var/log/messages, all from smbd daemon: api_samr_set_userinfo: unable to unmarshall SAMR_Q_SET_USERINFO passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c: pdb_getsampwdrid (1416) unable to open passdb database Does this make any sense? chris -------------- next part -------------- HTML attachment scrubbed and removed
