I have found that Samba does not seem to handle the ^M EOL character very well. This seems to be a big problem with Windows Notepad and then in vi for UNIX. Other than the ux2dos and dos2ux commands does anyone know of another solution or if this has been fixed in a more current release of Samba? Thanks! This is a universal problem in UNIX and NT integration. AFAIK, SAMBA does nothing to make this conversion. There are folks who are working on a solution, but it won't be perfect. The problem lies in the question: "When do I convert?" It is very difficult, if not impossible, to dectect a binary files vs. text files. This is why FTP programs require you to select "image" or "ASCII". The only way I know to do this is with extensions or MIME types. This will require some disipline on your users part to standardize the naming conventions. --- William Stuart (william@hae.com) Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes> -----Original Message----- > From: samba@samba.org [mailto:samba@samba.org]On Behalf Of Eric Sammons > Sent: Thursday, January 07, 1999 8:01 AM > To: Multiple recipients of list > Subject: Samba 1.9.18 DOS to UNIX and back with ASCII > > > I have found that Samba does not seem to handle the ^M EOL character > very well. This is supposedly one of the selling points of VISION/FS, which is marketed by SCO for their UNIX. It's supposed to handle this translation when files are accessed from both UNIX and DOS/Win. I haven't actually had a chance to fool with it yet, so I don't know how well it actually works.> -----Original Message----- > From: Panyarak Aaron Ngamsritragul [SMTP:panya@me.psu.ac.th] > Sent: Thursday, January 07, 1999 8:25 PM > To: Multiple recipients of list > Subject: RE: Samba 1.9.18 DOS to UNIX and back with ASCII > > > On Fri, 8 Jan 1999, William Stuart wrote: > > > This is a universal problem in UNIX and NT integration. Programs can get it right for all files some of the time, for some files all of the time, but program's can't get it right for all files all of the time. This means that some binaries **will** GPF...
