Not authorized to login from this station
Hi,
Can any point me in the right direction to solve this one?
I get a: "this account is not authorized to login from this station"
message when I try to "Map Network Drive" from NT4server SP4 to
my RH Linux 6.0 Samba 2.0.3, yet I can open a telnet session
from the NT machine to Linux using this user, and, in a linux
xterm window I can list the samba services using

Samba 2.0.3 and NT/9x
Dear all,
I recently upgraded to Samba 2.0.3 and read the doc files about NT
machines because I cannot connect to the Samba server.
In the WinNT.txt file there is the following proposal:

The following registry entry change will re-enable clear text password
handling:
Run regedt32.exe and locate the hive key entry:

Windows NT 4.0 SP3
I have Samba 1.9.17p2 and it works great on NT4.0 SP2
When I update to NT4.0SP3, my Samba connection gives me the following message:
The account is not authorized to login from this station.
Did something change?
Maybe NT4.0 SP3 uses a smb.conf option that wasn't used before?
I've installed the package version from the Solaris 2.5 web site.
I'm actually running Solaris 2.5.1

run prog to create policy? + our setup
Hi
Is it possible to give users a different policy?
If it's not possible by default, can I do it with preexec?
Wasn't there an option to let a file contain the output of a program, and
each time it is read, the output is piped instead of contents of a file?
Because I think that would be safer, than a preexec that replaces my
policy file, because when other users log in at exactly the same

Problem with Samba: "The account is not authorized to login from this station"
I am having a problem configuring Samba to work with my NT mahcines. I
can see the linux server from my NT machines. Under security=user, when
I attempt to browse the linux machine's shares, it asks for a username
and password, and then fails, telling me "The account is not authorized
to login from this station." If I set security = share, I can browse the
shares, but when I try and

browser problem
The browsing capability in Network Neighborhood disppears periodically.
Usually, double-clicking on Network Neighborhood gives us a list of all
the NT and Unix/samba boxes on the network segment (i.e. in the
Workgroup). When browsing disppears, all we see is *Entire Network*,
which has nothing in it.
We run a unix/NT network with 6 unix servers and about 80 NT clients. We

count combined occurrences of categories
Dear all,
i would like to count the number of times where I have combined occurrences of the categories of 2 variables.
For instance, in the dataframe below, i would like to know how many times each author (au1, au2, au3 represent the first, second, third author) is associated with each of the category of the variable 'nam'. The position of the author does not matter.

NT Crashes when doing large network file Xfers (was Re: NT crashes during smbtar)
Ernie,
Thanks for the great info.. Based on what you were seeing, would
you suspect that part of the problem is with the combination of NT
and the 3com card (3c595)? Currently, we are ONLY seeing this
under NT Workstation (not server) and almost all of our machines
have this same 3com 3c595 card (only if using 100BaseT)..

smbmount problem
Hello.
I hope that this is the proper place to ask this.
Here is my problem. I have several smbmounts under Red Hat Linux 5.1. They need to be accessed by
my apache web server. One of the mounts keeps getting disconnected, but this is not noticed by
Linux. So the Linux box thinks that the files under the smbmount are still accessable when they
aren't actually mounted. What would be the best

are:
o Linux compile fix applied
o Possible support for kill scanning on other platform (if pid_t is 16 bits
or ultra-fast machine it is probably supported, if not the program
probably says no).
o A configure script that works when fed to bash 2.x

Forming a Linux tiger team.

In a recent message on this list someone proposed the idea of forming a
linux tiger team. I am interested in forming a team like this. Are there
any other interested people?
[mod: "someone" is Eric Allman. He was talking about a
sendmail-tiger-team, but as we are on the linux-security list right
now, a linux-tiger-team is the obvious move.... Michael
