Microsoft Fax
Hello,
does anyone has some Information about M$ Exchanges Fax. If you
configure Exchange there is an Option about Fax. If you go there, you
can say you have the Modem on your PC or you can say it is in the
Network and you have to put in the Networkpath. It would be great to
use this with Samba but at this time I think Samba doesnt
support it. Maybe someone has some Information for me how I

Trouble connecting with smblient
I've just installed version 1.9.18p8 on SPARC Solaris 2.5. I can connect
with no problem from by NT box (map network drive), but when I try using
smbclient '\\\\machine\\share' from the machine I installed on, I get:
SMBtconX failed. ERRSRV - ERRinvnetname (Invalid network name in tree
connect.)
Perhaps you are using the wrong sharename, username or password?
Some servers insist

LDAP with Samba
I was running through the cvs.log and I noticed that there was a bunch
of stuff on LDAP authentication. I haven't seen anything on the
official releases about this yet, and I was wondering when/if it was
coming, or if it was already there and just undocumented. Anybody?

KerbNet!
I want to thank whoever mentioned KerbNet by Cygnus Solutions! Wowza!
I recommend that people check it out. It lets you implement Kerberos
under UNIX and NT, and have them work together (so you have one *unified*
security system that is used by both your NT and UNIX boxes).
It's at http://www.cygnus.com/product/kerbnet-index.html
It also does authentication *without* sending passwords over

The samba recycle bin clarified
> Unless I am wrong, the "Recycle Bin" works only on LOCAL drives.
Alas it does. But users don't know that and shouldn't be expected to
understand the subtleties of operating systems, that's our job. In their
world, when they use Windows or MacOS, a trashcan exists and should exist on
servers as well.

Problem with Samba caching file contents
Hello everybody,
We are using Samba 2.02 on Sun Solaris 2.51 and 2.6 platforms.
Using these as a file server we occasionally have the following
problem:
- the file is changed on the file server using standard UNIX tools
while somebody else is editing it
- the other user re-loads the file using a Windows 95 client
- the content of the file seems to be the same as before the change
on the windows

Anyone resolved "failed to lock SMB passwd file"?
Hi all.
I'm experiencing long connect delays due to password file locking
errors. For each connection samba logs the following errors:
do_pw_lock: failed to lock SMB passwd file.
mod_smbpwd_entry: unable to lock file
/usr/local/samba-1.9.18p10/private/smbpasswd
In the archives I found some other messages reporting the problem (on
May this year), but no solution. Did I

Group information lost when security = server
Hi.
I have a samba install, samba-1.9.18p4, with security=server. Users are
validated against the NT domain controller correctly, and user accounts
do exist on the unix box (AIX 4.2.1)
Problem is that while the uid of the files that users create is correct,
the group id is always sys, even though the users have as primary gid
STAFF.
The definition of the share I am trying to create is:

I have a CD we (Candle) created. It installs one of our products by
executing the setup.exe program. I am able to execute the program off the

I then copied the contents of the CD to the Samba share. I try and execute
the setup.exe file and get this error.
If I then copy the files from the Samba share to /temp, I can

Unix-Windows file synchronization problem
Looking for help !
We have a rather strange problem working with Samba installed
on a DEC Alpha server, when reading an exported directory from Windows.
We are using an application written in C that reads a file from drive E:
where a directory exported from Alpha is mounted. Once the file is read,
all the further readings ignore changes in the file (file is changed
on Alpha). Even as we read it

Net help analyzing logfiles: Printer permissions in Domain
Hi!
I am trying to print from an NT machine to a simple samba printer.
That NT machine is the PDC and the samba box is having logins
authenticated by the NT box.
When I try to access the printer with my own username, it works fine.
As soon as I have the account that is destined to do the printing
print, it can't log in.
I have included my smb.conf file and two log excerpts - one
successful,

Freebsd + NT/Nt-Client am Linux-Server
Pam_SMB allows Linux clients to validate
their passwords against an NT PDC, so the
only thing you have to do is set up the
accounts on the Linux side with an '*'
in the /etc/passwd entry. This can be
done using a list of users:
#!/bin/bash
for i in `cat myuserlist`; do
/usr/sbin/adduser -p '*' $i
with various other command line options,
such as "-s

passwords and Win95
Is there any way to have an account that let's multiple users from Windows
95 clients log in? i.e., let's say there are shared folders called foo and
bar. bar is public. foo is accessible to user "foobar" with password
"foobar." Win95 keeps sending over it's username as the person who logged
in to that computer, or as the computer's machine name... and samba
