Trouble connecting with smblient
I've just installed version 1.9.18p8 on SPARC Solaris 2.5. I can connect with no problem from by NT box (map network drive), but when I try using smbclient '\\\\machine\\share' from the machine I installed on, I get: SMBtconX failed. ERRSRV - ERRinvnetname (Invalid network name in tree connect.) Perhaps you are using the wrong sharename, username or password? Some servers insist

Microsoft Fax
Hello, does anyone has some Information about M$ Exchanges Fax. If you configure Exchange there is an Option about Fax. If you go there, you can say you have the Modem on your PC or you can say it is in the Network and you have to put in the Networkpath. It would be great to use this with Samba but at this time I think Samba doesnt support it. Maybe someone has some Information for me how I

LDAP with Samba
I was running through the cvs.log and I noticed that there was a bunch of stuff on LDAP authentication. I haven't seen anything on the official releases about this yet, and I was wondering when/if it was coming, or if it was already there and just undocumented. Anybody? -- ================================ Jay Christner Information Technology Services Goshen College

The samba recycle bin clarified
> Unless I am wrong, the "Recycle Bin" works only on LOCAL drives. Alas it does. But users don't know that and shouldn't be expected to understand the subtleties of operating systems, that's our job. In their world, when they use Windows or MacOS, a trashcan exists and should exist on servers as well. > Like Jonathan Kelly, I mirror network drives at night to a backup

Your message Re: Samba and printer comments (July 5 1999)
Yes unfortunately I do not have much luck recieving help from the SAMBA mailing list. After much playing I found something weird that was seemingly causing incorrect comments. Most printers would recieve the comment - "no entries" which originally I assumed to be the default comment given by Win95 when it could not get a proper comment. However I later found that this is not the case.

disk space on NT
We have a 8GB scsi disk on a samba server. If we look in the explorer on our NT clients, we see only 4GB disk space with 0 bytes used (seems to be a 32 Bit limit ?!). Is this a problem of samba or of the NT client ? Any solution available ? Thanks K.Konzept

KerbNet!
I want to thank whoever mentioned KerbNet by Cygnus Solutions! Wowza! I recommend that people check it out. It lets you implement Kerberos under UNIX and NT, and have them work together (so you have one *unified* security system that is used by both your NT and UNIX boxes). It's at http://www.cygnus.com/product/kerbnet-index.html It also does authentication *without* sending passwords over

How to set up spooling for a HP JetDirect interface?
I've set up Samba and LPRng for HP printers with JetDirect cards. It works for one user at a time. But if the printer is off-line or busy, the samba client does not get an error message, but the job gets lost. :( I would like the print jobs to be spooled on Linux even when there is an active print job or when the printer is off-line. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with lpd. The

Problem with Samba caching file contents
Hello everybody, We are using Samba 2.02 on Sun Solaris 2.51 and 2.6 platforms. Using these as a file server we occasionally have the following problem: - the file is changed on the file server using standard UNIX tools while somebody else is editing it - the other user re-loads the file using a Windows 95 client - the content of the file seems to be the same as before the change on the windows

Win'95 printer lock-ups & filters
Greetings all, I hope this is appropriate for this list, if not I'll take it somewhere else. ;-) Printer lock-ups: I have some printer shares available on my Samba server (RedHat Linux kernel 2.0.32, Samba 1.9.18p3) and they are working just fine in most cases, but from time to time the Win '95 client will either lock up while printing or send a print job samba & lpd don't like

Unix-Windows file synchronization problem
Looking for help ! We have a rather strange problem working with Samba installed on a DEC Alpha server, when reading an exported directory from Windows. We are using an application written in C that reads a file from drive E: where a directory exported from Alpha is mounted. Once the file is read, all the further readings ignore changes in the file (file is changed on Alpha). Even as we read it

Print Queue Management through windows Clients
Hi, Is it possible to manage print queue's via windows clients. I get Access denied, unable to connect. I use the lp daemon to print via JetDirect. I am beginning to think it is not possible. If someone out there is doing this could you please share your configurations with us so it can be added to the samba How-to documentation. Respectfully, Nick

my printers are still paused in Win2k and WinNT 4.0
Hello, It seems that I am in printer hell once again :) I am trying to sort out some printer problems with our UNIX server. The basic problem is this. I have a test server to K.I.S.S the problem. On this server I have defined two queues which are csqlis and HPfinley. csqlis seems to work correctly and displays ready. HPfinley always reads Paused on win2k and NT40 clients. The output of the lpq

Samba Printing
Good Afternoon, We recently added encrypted smb passwords to our site. I just tried to add a printer to samba and it will not work. I tried to connect to \\sambahost\printer and it will not connect. All the older printers still work. I just wonder if there is an extra step I need to perform now when I add printers? Thanks for your time, Bill -- William M. Fennell Network Administrator

Favorite print command for SAMBA on Sol 2.5.1
I am having problems with the HP printers that are being handled by a Solaris 2.5.1 machine. The boring details are towards the end. The SAMBA print command I currently use is: print command = echo %u - %s to %p at %T >> /tmp/smb-print.log ; \ lpr -P %p %s ; \ rm %s ; These are EXACTLY the way they are in the smb.conf file. The server will print 99.9% of
