*SMBSERVER name query to Samba server
Hello, I am working on developing yet another pam module that uses the SMB dialect for authenticating user id/passwords with an SMB server (OS/2 Warp Server, NT, Samba, AIX, etc.). The code is essentially built on top of portions of Samba 2.0.6 release code. The code uses the get_dc_list() routine (source/libsmb/namequery.c) introduced in 2.0.6. to allow the client to discover the DC to

session request to *SMBSERVER failed
I am having a problem with samba on a Sun Ultra running Solaris 2.6. I got the error: -- session request to WWW20 failed session request to *SMBSERVER failed -- This happened after a reboot, samba was running perfect before. The smb.conf is fine, it was tested on another server and worked. Netstat -a shows that it is listening on port 139. Any ideas? Thanks. ## ignore the Lycos

Novell client caused Domain Logons to crash NT
I am trying to get domains logons going for and NT network. Samba is running fine, and the NT station I have started with joined the domain without any issues - except of course that I can't log on to the server. When I change the logons to the domain rather that the workstation in the IntranetWare logon client, it crashes the NT box (blue screen, winlogon.exe fatal error, etc.). Has anyone

AIX / NT Networking
I'm running AIX 4.3.3MR9 on an H50 with NT4.0SP6a clients. Samba is 2.2.4 compiled on the system with GCC. I've been having an issue for a few weeks and it really looked like some type of name resolution issue. When NT clients browse samba shares from my AIX server they take 30-60 seconds to come up. Sometimes they won't come up at all. All of my DNS, WINS, and hosts files check

Slow Excel File Open on Samba Shares
I have a 1.9.18p4 Samba server running on an HP-UX 10.20 box. It has been running smooth as silk for almost 2 years now. Just this Monday, users have been experiencing slow file open times (1-3 minutes) when opening Excel files from any of the Samba shares. This problem does not occur with files created by any other MS Office product. File size does not seem to matter either. On the client

Error: An unusual circumstance has arisen in the nesting of readline input
Hi, If I have warnings converted to errors, and if I plot a simple plot and then resize and move the plot's window many times, I eventually get an error "Display list redraw incomplete", and after a while an endlessly repeating error "An unusual circumstance has arisen in the nesting of readline input". I cannot stop it using Ctrl-C (Ctrl-Z works though). I'm

Difficulties with samba and ADS
Hello. I thought I had this fixed 3 times now... but it keeps coming up. I have 2 smbservers that are part of an ADS domain (windows 2003 server). I have my samba servers set up, and it works great for a month or so, then it starts giving smbmount and smbclient a hard time. This is very bad news because I rely upon smbmount heavily. When I try to view the shares my main server, and use the

winxp + sambs 2.2.3a (as PDC) + printers = no go
Greetings. Here's my scenario: 1) I have a linux box running samba 2.2.3a, configured as a PDC. 2) I have a WinXP laptop that attempts to use the printers that are configured on the samba server. NOTE: XP Laptop is NOT, repeat: NOT, in the domain that the samba box controls. The XP boxs is part of a workgroup instead. 3) XP box can see file shares on samba box fine. Just printers, at the

NT vs W2K permission
Hi, I have a group of users (Doc Master Index) that is given rwx permission to a subfolder under a share folder (docs) by ACL. If user edits the file in NT the permission remains intact, but if user changes the file in W2K, everyone gets read-only. Would someone give me a couple of pointers please? A subset of my conf is appended below. Regards, Norman [root@smbserver Document Master Index]# ls
