Logon script
Hello, I am having a little problem with executing logon scripts on Win95 clients, logging into Samba Netlogon service. When a user logges in, a MS-DOS prompt shows up and quicky disappears. Then I get "Please Wait While your logon script executes". It hangs at that point. A user has to hit cancel to start his win95 session. I have done the logon script in MS-DOS editor. I have the

newbie desperate for help
I just installed Samba for the first time. Installed and setup like a dream. Unfortunately, I can't login to save my life. The server appears in the Net. smbclient (1.9.18p3) dies or needs killing when used for backups (via Amanda)
Has anyone noticed that there appears to be a few problems with regards to Samba and in particular the usage of smbclient, which can do one of the following : 1) Complete & udder death of the NT networking subsystem (which requires a reboot to cure) 2) smbclient appears to lose its connection with the host being contacted and eventually needs to be killed. I'm not too sure how

autoconfigure new NT4 sp3 clients, samba 1.9.19 server
Hi, I'm running the Alpha of 1.9.19 (we needed Samba as a domain controller) and want to know the best way to set it up so that the first login for a new user on an WNT workstation in that domain creates the profile we want for the user, rather than the one NT seems to want. 1. The profile created is about .5 Mb in size. The parts that we want in there are maybe 20% of that. How does

NT Groups
Hi, Im running samba-2.0.4b. Is there a way or granting access to shares using the NT SAM (global groups)? Currently I have to add users to the unix server, then add them to a GID. I hope there is an easier way! Thanks Mark Beck

Bind Failed on Port 139
I installed Samba 2.0.0 on a P100 running SlackWare Linux 96 (Kernel 2.0.0). After running configure, make, make install, and testparm, I thought I was all ready to start up the smbd daemon. So I typed in smbd -D -d 50 Got back a failure listing in the error log. [1999/02/01 16:27:06, 0] lib/util_sock.c:open_socket_in(663 Brian Lee Bowers | Division of Government Research Computer Aide I

quotas: documentation? Properties?
System: samba 2.0.4b on Solaris 2.x Starting point: PC's "Properties" window on a share of home directories; diskspace Used/Free "pie-chart" and figures. A colleague asked me yesterday whether this properties window could display the diskspace information, using the user's UNIX quota rather than the physical space on the disk. Our environment has potentially 14,000

PANIC: assert failed.
Hi all, We are using Samba 2.0.0beta5 on HP-UX 10.20 systems. We also use encryption and password checking on the NT 4 boxes. Everything works fine except for a few persons. When connecting to a samba share from an NT 4 client they get "unexpected network error". The contents of the last part of the samba log file are: [1999/06/01 16:04:45, 0] rpc_parse/parse_net.c:(1023) PANIC:

spawning smbd daemon
Hello, Does anyone have problem with spawning smbd daemon (own by root)? I thought there should be only one smbd daemon running that is owned by root and any other smbd should be owned by users who is using Samba services. Creating a Briefcase on Samba shares?
Is there a way to successfully create a working Briefcase on Samba shares? When I create one in a Samba share, it has a regular folder icon with a desktop.ini file in it. Openning it reveals a plain folder rather than the usual Briefcase applet. When I create one on a Windows NT network share it works fine, but all our big filesystems are unix-based Samba shares rather than NT shares. -Ernie

File Corruption in NT workstation but not Win95
Hi again folks... Just when I thought I had everything working great with samba mounts on an AIX 4.3 machine (after a lot of testing with a Win95 box), I went to do something quickly on a NT 4.0 workstation. I had some intallation programs in the shared directory that I had used to install programs on the Win95. No problem. I ran over to my boss' NT 4.0 workstation, opened the shared

Need Advice: 2.0.4 or CVS samba
Hello, I'm currently running a CVS version of SAMBA w/ PDC support from before the 2.0.x series release. It has worked well for my needs. Now I'm wanting to update my NT machines to SP5 which I assume doesn't work with my version of SAMBA (SP4 doesn't). I couldn't find the answer in the mail list archives. So....... I know 2.0.4 doesn't have "official"

domain user map
I have searched the samba archive site and found a reference to the parameter "domain user map". It is also documented in the on-line documentation. Since I only had samba version 2.0.0 I decided to download the latest, which turns out to be 2.0.3. However, this version does not appear to have the parameter "domain user map" either!! I did see in an article from the

Refusing password from win95 client
This is surely in a FAQ somewhere, but I can't find it. Latest ver. of samba on RH Linux 5.0, encrypt. passwds. My Win95 clients were happy. Then I used poledit to turn off password caching and now they are not happy. The problem is that they can't connect to their home directories. Guest shares are fine, and other shares that require passwords are fine, but when you connect to your home

NT 4 workstation login confirmed by Samba?
Hi, How does one configure NT 4 workstation so that it will take the username/password pair typed in by the user on the console, and pass it to a PDC (in this case, Samba) for workstation/Domain login verification? Further details: The server (1.9.19, yes, I know that's alpha) is configured to be a PDC. We have several hundred Unix accounts, for which both the username and password are

NT 5.0b2 & Samba 2.0 Alpha
All, I don't see anything in the digests about this, but I just wanted to mention that Samba 2.0Alpha doesn't work with NT5.0b2. It works fine with Samba1.9.18p10. From what I can tell, it has to do with the nttrans code. I turned the debugging up to 10 and the error that I see is in the nt_open_pipe() routine (this is in 2.0alpha). NT5.0 tries to open a pipe "*\." which
