More help need on Von Bertalanffy Growth Curves
Howdy,
Last week I got some great help on why I was getting an error code when trying to run this model, thanks everyone! I was able to get the code up and running beautifully for several data sets. Now I am getting different errors with this new data set. I can't figure out why, I have more data points with this species, and it is ordered exactly the same as the other species I have been

unlockEnvironment()?
R lets one lock an environment with both an R function,
base::lockEnvironment, and a C function, R_LockEnvironment, but, as far as
I can tell, no corresponding function to unlock an environment. Is this
omission on principle or just something that has not been done yet?
I ask because several packages, including the well-used R6 and rlang
packages, fiddle with some bits in with SET_ENVFLAGS and

Setting a call to be recorded before Xfer?
I need to allow the company operator to decide whether to record a call.
(Car dealership that needs to coach salespeople). They don't want to record
every sales call, just for the purposes of coaching certain employees on an
ad hoc basis.
The situation is:
a. Call comes in on PSTN PRI
b. Call is routed to operator in dialplan
c. Operator ascertains that its a sales call for a salesman in

[OT] Witty one liners or computer related proverbs
Dear All,
I need some witty computer related proverbs or one liners that some of
have used in the past as footers for your emails for example.
I particularly remember a PERL based transliteration joke/footer that
when run in PERL produces a witty output....
This is to fix a problem internally created by an over zealous salesman
at my company pinning up A4 sheets with bullSh*t sales proverbs

OT: UPS battery vendor
Hi, folks.
I need some new replacement batteries for rack-mount APC UPSes. My old
vender... well, the salesman I dealt with for several years left about a
year and a half ago, and last year's purchase was a disaster (wrong
batteries, wrong batteries, months to get the shipping to return the wrong
batteries...), so I'm looking for a new, reliable vendor who does US
government contract

Problem compiling 2.2.5
I'm trying to upgrade a very old sparcstation running Solaris 8 which
is running dovecot 1.x for few users. All I have for the task is good
old gcc 2.95.2. The poor sod complains because it can't compute the
sizeof(unsigned char prefix_text[]) at line 13 of log-error-buffer.c.
Can I help it by - say - putting a constant between the '[]'?
Or is it unfair? :-)
I don't think

Machine Trust Accounts
Hi,
I'm in the process of setting up Samba 2.2.2 as a PDC and the boss has been reasonably impressed with it.
An issue that we've come up against is machine trust accounts. Our PC labs (running W2k) are rebuilt nightly or on demand via Rembo. This is done to keep a clean and consistant install on the machines at all times.
I suspect that this will cause the trust account relationship

SAMBA-LDAP and variable substition
Hello,
Im using Samba and LDAP together and if I use the scriptPath attribute for
a user defined in LDAP, it seems that variable substitions no longer work
like they did when you're using the global logon script parameter in smb.conf.
example:
scriptPath = scripts\%m.bat ==> %m.bat is NOT substituted to machinename.bat
Because the "logon scripts" directive of smb.conf will

What's in a name?
Hi,
Let's play a little game. Forget all you know, or think you know.
Without any context at all, what does the following pattern make you think
of?

X <- X X <- X

Delete files with system command on Windows 7
Under MacOS I use the following script to process my latex documents:
pdflatex -halt-on-error document.tex
bibtex document.aux
pdflatex -halt-on-error document.tex
pdflatex -halt-on-error document.tex
rm *.aux *.bbl *.blg *.log *.nlo *.thm
How can I realise this under Windows 7?

How to loop on file names
Dear all,
I need to do the same procedure on several files. But I don't know how
to refer to the file name.
Here is an example of what I am trying to do.
List of files: file1(A,B,C, D1...Dn), file2(A,B,C,E1,...,En),
file3(A,B,C,F1,...,Fn)
Procedure I want to apply on each file:
dft <- melt(df,id=c('A','B','C'))
dft$X <- substr(dft$variable,1,3)
dft$Y <-

Re: [PATCH] Fix IPSec for Xen checksum offload packets (Jon Mason)
Hello Xen folks,
I have independently verified that this patch indeed fixes the issue (I
posted a message about the issue over the summer:
http://lists.xensource.com/archives/html/xen-devel/2005-08/msg00114.html).
I used changeset 8911 of xen-unstable.hg. The patch as written expects
kernel linux-2.6.16-rc2, but changeset 8911 uses kernel 2.6.16-rc4. I
verified that the patch works with

HoMM 3 - SoD not working under FC6, but does in FC5
I am able to run HoMM 3 (3DO version) SoD expansion with the 3.2 update
and the No CD crack on FC5. However it doesn't run on FC6. I tried disabling
SELinux and that did not have an appreciable effect. I tried wine versions
0.9.24, 0.9.25 and 0.9.27.
Here is the output on the terminal session:

Sweave Makefile issue
Dear R-specialists,
I am trying to create a Makefile that will first convert all my .Rnw
files into .tex files and then, that will run the LaTeX compiler to
produce a pdf document. This issue has been discussed before. Hence,
I've basically adapted a Makefile I found at
http://n4.nabble.com/R-Sweave-R-and-complex-latex-projects-td810020.html#a810023
to make it compatible with a Windows
