FW: Samba 1.9.17 fails to truncate share mode file (fwd)
Although the bug in Samba 1.9.17p1 which caused "ERROR: set_share_mode:
failed to ftruncate share mode file" messages in log.smb has been fixed
in 1.9.17p2, empty share* files are not being deleted from the lock file
directory.

Samba 1.9.17 fails to truncate share mode file (fwd)
Thank you for the information that you have passed on to me. My own
research has found that ftruncate is quite happy to set a file to the
same size that it is already, so something else must be causing the
problem. The comment before the ftruncate in set_share_mode says the
file is being truncated just for safety, so normally it is probably not
necessary to truncate the file.

Tim

Samba Problems
I have a couple of problems with Samba that I would appreciate help
with:
1. Since installing version 1.9.17p1, error messages such as "ERROR:
set_share_mode: failed to ftruncate share mode file
/var/smb/locks/share.9175085.1500224 to size 42 (Permission denied)" are
appearing in log.smb.
2. When a directory on a UNIX machine contains a file named *, this file
appears with the name ~16

Incase anyone is interested this issue was caused by turning on brick
multiplexing.
Switching it off made the problem go away...

Excuse me, but it seems that there is not way to uninstall the qemu which has been built from source.
There is no target for uninstall. Is it

Any problem of auto updating using yum?
Hello, all.
My systems are centos 4.x or 5.x(i386 and x86_64) and various services(apache, mysql, java, sendmail... etc..).
and I would like to set auto update using yum.
But some staffs didn't agree my auto update plan,
because some services can be effected by auto update.
There were no side effects just yum updating until now,
and it seems impossible for me to check

can't open/create local group with usrmgr
Hi Samba users,
First I can't open/create local group with usrmgr.
Second creating global group and user is working, [third] but adding users
to this [global] group failed..
I do this as yaya that has policy rights for everything, like "Domain
Admins" has, and when I do it as root, it still doesn't work.
Here's some infos:

samba ignores supplementary groups for acl
Hi,
I'm running samba 3.0.14a-3 on Debian sarge (sparc). The filesystem
is ext3 with acl support. winbind works fine. Please see below.
when I am logged in using ssh, I can list the files in a folder
(/var/Share) for which the group "staff" has r-x permissions. The
problem is I can't list the folder through samba:

Problem manipulating files when a replica is down
We currently have a small pilot gluster setup as Replica 2 + 1 (arbiter)
As a DR test we decided to see that to see what would happen when taking
one of the replicas offline. For the first couple of hours everything
seemed fine and then one of my colleagues tried to a directory with files
via samba from a windows client by using robocopy.
At this point it starting to go wrong. The brick went

why "xcopy /d" doesn't work
Hi Germano,
I just found your post regarding Samba and xcopy /d switch at
http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2003-October/000699.html.
This is also driving me mad. I was interested to know if you ever found a
way around this problem ? It only seems to be a problem for me with 2000
and XP workstation. 98 works fine.

public/private email accounts
Hi,
I am running FC4 with postfix/dovecot/amavisd-new etc on my box with 50
staff email accounts (say 10 per 5 departments)... everything is working
ok...
I want to create 5 more accounts for each department (to be redirected to
respective staffs, e.g. sales at xyz.com) as well one for everyone... that
can be easily done by creating an account and modifying the .forward file
