more questions Re: deleting (empty) directories
Thanks to Tim Conway and Phil Marek. The correct way(s) to synchronize two
directory trees is to avoid a trailing "*" after the origin directory
(either use a . or nothing)
rsync -rlptPzu --delete /scratch/temp/Departure/. /scratch/temp/Arrival/
rsync -rlptPzu --delete /scratch/temp/Departure/ /scratch/temp/Arrival/
I was misled by my first tests
rsync -rlptPzu --delete

way to access the data using R, or any other solution that anyone can
think of?
thanks,

Serial port fun: CentOS 4.8 (32-bit) vs. CentOS 5.4 (64-bit)
I am in the process of migrating from running CentOS 4.8 (32-bit) to
CentOS 5.4 (64-bit) on my AMD Sempron(tm) Processor LE-1300 system (it
is running CentOS 4.8 32-bit because the disk images are from a
previous PIII system), and things are 'interesting' WRT how the Lava
Computer mfg Inc Quattro-PCI card is being handled.
lspci (on CentOS 4.8 32-bit) yields:

again on file corruption
Hi,
I've posted the same problem several months ago, You can find my post
there:
http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2006-March/119244.html
I summed up all the whole thing: I run a samba server based on slackware
10.2, using samba 3.0.20 with two clients: a windows 98 box and a
windows 2000 box. I've got a share between the two system which hosts an
old spreadsheet program (quattro pro)

Database design, working but looking for better ways
Rails 3.1.3
Hi. I have designed the database used for my travel plan application.
You should be able to look at the diagram in the link below, hopefully.

("belongs_to" is omitted since it''s obvious)
Basically, the application can list the destinations from a choice of
the departure.
Not mention that the departure_id (integer) and

Faceted bar plot shows wrong counts (ggplot2)
I have encountered a problem with faceted bar plots. I have tried to
create something like the example explained in the ggplot2 book (see pp.
126-128):
library(ggplot2)
mpg4 <- subset(mpg, manufacturer %in%
c("audi", "volkswagen", "jeep"))
mpg4$manufacturer <- as.character(mpg4$manufacturer)
mpg4$model <- as.character(mpg4$model)

At first, I don't know how to create graph composed of bars and areas in
the same picture as it is shown in the balance graph (h2plc02.gif).
I am sendind the original data table from that I need make the same

smbd processes 99% cpu and end-user locks up
Still having a situation, in particular with Microsoft Office products
(Excel, MS Word, etc), wherein a user locks up while saving a file.
The scenario goes as follows:
user opens up a file (excel document, word document, etc), user changes
file, user hits save, user hangs...
`top` reports an smbd belonging to user locked in some sort of loop
causing 99% cpu utilization.

Structure of Anova for obtaining sig. corrected for departure from sphericity
Dear helpers,
I have a 2x2 mixed design with two "groups" (between-subjects) and two
presentation-types (within-subjects).
The difference between groups is in the order of manipulations:
group.CD having first a block of present.type.C and then a block of
present.type.D, each block containing 31 trials.
group.DC having first a block of present.type.D and then a block of
present.type.C,

2 TB limit on USB drive
Hallo
I submitted this as a bug several weeks ago, but I wanted to ask around
& see if anyone else has come across this....
I have a USB Buffalo Drivestation Quattro, with 4 1TB disks
configured in raid5 as one 2.8TB (or so) disk, attached to a Cent 5.4 64
bit server (completely yum'd up to date)
The disk is labeled as GPT, and formatted as a 2.8 TB ext3 partition

Good news Ubuntu`s update fixed problems in CoreDRAW 9
Its February 6, 2012. I just downloaded all the updates to Ubuntu 11.10 64bit. I think the updates just came out today. It was a bigger package of updates than the others I have installed in the past. I do not know what they did but whatever it was, it fixed most of the problems in CorelDRAW 9.
I gave it a rating of bronze, and that was being generous, just a few days ago. It seems as thou

Offline Folders
We have just recently started using Windows XP Offline Folders here,
and it is causing all sorts of festive problems. If a folder is set for
offline use on a client, whether that folder is on our samba server or
not, the samba server becomes unavailable or only very slightly
available at best.
Example:
Explorer - Windows 2003 Server, Quattro - samba 3.0.22 server on
Solaris 9
