SSH and root access from limited hosts
This is blanket access for root from any host with valid keys (and password) - I want to limit that access to 4 hosts no matter what keys or passwords are provided/used. I have looked at shosts.equiv but this doesn't stop other hosts being allowed. I have also looked at "AllowUsers root at host1 root at host2 ..." but this also means including every user we have for all other

TinnR & Philips Webcam
Hi All, I have a Philips Webcam, model SPC110NC. I had to download a diver in order for the webcam to work with Skype from the philips support page (www.philips.com/support). Now when I start up TinnR to use with R, it opens the webcam. If I manually start up R, Tinn R will no longer synch with it. Also, when I install the webcam driver there doesn't appear to be anyway to modify the

problems with rsync in cygwin
Hi, I'm trying to set up rsync, with the transfers originating from a Win2K box and going to a Linux box. Both boxes are on my home LAN, so ssh is not required; I thought I would simply use the rsync protocol. I set up xinetd on my Linux box to start a rsync server when needed. My first attempts at a test run failed like so: $ rsync -a /cygdrive/c/installs/palm rsync://192.168.2.3/palm

Incremental transfers: how to tell?
Hello. I just started messing around with RSync to synchronize some RRD files between a couple BSD/Linux boxes. To test, I'm just trying to sync about 20 of these files which are about 256KB each. It seems that the full contents of each file are being transferred each time; i.e., the incremental transfer feature isn't working. I'm basing this assumption on output such as the

Spacing of text does not match spacing of bars in barplot
I have a very standard barplot. My labels are too long to be printed horizontally under each bar, so I am using text to put the labels on a 45 degree slant. However, the labels are spaced more narrowly than the bars, so on an 8 vertical bar plot, the end of the eighth label is lined up with the seventh bar. Preferably I don't want to do every text label separately (I'm having this

Help understanding why glm and lrm.fit runs with my data, but lrm does not
Dear all, I am using the publically available GustoW dataset. The exact version I am using is available here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4oZ2TQA0PAoUm85UzBFNjZ0Ulk I would like to produce a nomogram for 5 covariates - AGE, HYP, KILLIP, HRT and ANT. I have successfully fitted a logistic regression model using the "glm" function as shown below. library(rms) gusto <-

Listing groups in the AD
I am having some issues with the mapping of groups. I want to map one AD group to one unix group (don't care much about the rest), but the problem is that I can't find the group. The Linux machine I am using is part of the AD already and I can get users to log in via winbind authentication but I need to restrict who can log in. If I do net groupmap modify ntgroup="Linux Users"

Winbind: limiting groups that can log-in
Hi, I am currently trying to configure AD (Windows 2003) + Linux (CentOS 4.4) to allow user logins for certain users, namely, developers. The winbind authentication part of it is working correctly, but every user in AD can login to the servers via ssh. I have tried to limit users by adding valid_users = @"domain+developers" (+ is the separator) on /etc/samba/smb.conf, but this

Survfit when new data has only 1 row of data
Dear R-help, I am using R version 3.4.0 within Windows, and survival 2.41-3. I have fit a Prentice Williams and Peterson-Counting Process model to my data as shown below. This is basically an extension of the Cox model for interval censored data. My dataset, bdat5 can be found here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1sQSBEe1uBzh_gYbcj4P5Kuephvalc3gh cfitcp2 <-

barplots of several variables with different number of categories
If I have two factors, v1 and v2 and I want to have a stacked bar graph of the two variables side by side I could do barplot(cbind(table(v1),table(v2))) if v1 and v2 have the same number of categories. If they don't have the same number of categories this won't work. I'm sure there's a simple solution? Thanks, Jon -- View this message in context:

Help understanding why glm and lrm.fit runs with my data, but lrm does not
Fixed 'maxiter' in the help file. Thanks. Please give the original source of that dataset. That dataset is a tiny sample of GUSTO-I and not large enough to fit this model very reliably. A nomogram using the full dataset (not publicly available to my knowledge) is already available in http://biostat.mc.vanderbilt.edu/tmp/bbr.pdf Use lrm, not lrm.fit for this. Adding maxit=20 will

How to apply two parameter function in data frame
I know this is something simple that I cannot do because I do not yet "think" in R. I have a data frame has a variable participation (a factor), and several other factors. I want a chisq test (no contingency tables) for participation vs all of the other factors. In SPSS I would do: CROSSTABS /TABLES= (my other factors) BY participation /FORMAT=NOTABLES /STATISTICS=CHISQ

rsync out of memory at 8 MB although ulimit is 512MB
Hello again, I encountered something amazing. First I thought there is not enough memory allowed through ulimit. ulimit is now set to (almost) 512MB but rsync still gets out fo memory at 8MB. Can anyone tell me why? That's my configuration: rsync version 2.6.2 from AIX 5.3 to SuSE Linux 9 (also has rsync 2.6.2) ulimit -a (AIX) ulimit -a AIX (source): -------------------------
