wine 1.3.28 sound issues
Hello, After upgrading wine from 1.3.27 -> 1.3.28 I found I got no sound when a different application (which uses the sound) is running in the background. Workaround for me is to kill all sound, load up the wine application and alt+tab back to start a non wine application. It's not optimal but a workaround. But I would like to understand why this is happening. Why wine could somehow not

Hello, I have a problem with my wine 1.3 installation: I've just installed wine 1.3 but when I open the wine configuration window and go to the Audio section I receive the following errors: "It's been found within the register an unavailable controler! would you like to eliminate "jack" from the register?" "It's been found within the register an

No sound in World of Warcraft - intermittant.
At first I thought it was due to running Mangler simultaneously, but recently we've had no sound in World of Warcraft. One night when I was setting up to raid that night, I started WoW, and sound worked fine. I then quit WoW, started Mangler, started WoW, had sound in the first but not the second. When WoW started this dialogue box popped up saying that a change in hardware had been detected

Can't create folders in .wine/drive_c/users/public/App Data/...
OK, so I don't know what's going on. (even with tinyproxy/firehol off the following occurs). Unless wine is run by root, when WoW is first loaded and trying to login, WoW creates a Cache folder and a bunch of folders under cache for login purposes. The Cache folder exists in: <wine profile dir>/drive_c/users/Public/Applicatoin data/Blizzard Entertainment/Battle.net. Now it can

WoW/RealID
Just trying to determine if anyone else using Wine + WoW + RealID friends is experiencing the same problem, so I can determine if it's a router/internet/wow/linux(wine) issue. All my realID friends show location unknown (regular toon friends properly show the location). Also, battle.net looses connection with realid and it takes a wow restart to resolve. Any input would be great. --

IE7
Ok I got IE7 working, mainly because of Steam, but I wanted to see if I could get flash working, aparently activex controls won't install correctly. Is there a way to fix this? (i've tried Winetricks for flash but it tells me the .exe hash doesn't match or something). Anyways, just curious, not to use ie in linux but mainly to get flash working since steam seems to use IE for

Hero Engine
Anyone got a game that's free or cheap to test Hero Engine on? Would just like to see how wine does with SW TOR coming out soon. Tempted to pre-order even if it doesn't work. -- Sincerely, MacNean C. Xorg cursor instead of wine's (or even changing wine's default cursor)
Is there a way to hide wine's default cursor or change it or use Xorg's cursor? (I did ask this on IRC last night, but only 1 person responding he/she didn't think so, so I'm asking on the list just to be sure). Reason for this is, I have found a mouse.c patch that enables a sort of HW OpenGL cursor for WoW. (Basically shows the wine hw cursor instead of hiding it, then with a

Re: Wine and WoW Cataclysm Patch 4.0 troubleshooting thread
@BlackNoxis/tparker: Wine --version: wine-1.2.2 I checked the software package manager program and I don't see a newer Wine version listed :( The graphics drivers are version "NVIDIA 195.36.24" I believe - the "185" in nvidia-glx-185 doesn't seem to match the actual driver version for some reason. ------ @dardack: Thanks for the info. I'd still be interested

Re: Wine and WoW Cataclysm Patch 4.0 troubleshooting thread
Ok, after several hours, I installed the nVidia drivers from their own website, and then (this was the bit that took longest) I installed Wine 1.3.28 from the PPA. I had a go at building 1.3.29 from sources, but it complained about not having 32 bit development libraries. I looked around and all I could find was to install wine-deps from the PPA so I figured if I was going to do that, I might as

Today's secret to making it work: In System/Preferences/Startup applications, uncheck pulseaudio sudo apt-get install esound sudo nano /etc/pulse/client.conf autospawn = no Then every time your computer

I dun goofed...
So. I was having problems with WineTricks, and after fudging around with settings and whatnot, re-downloading it, trying to run it from the Terminal...I decided to uninstall both Wine and WineTricks. So I opened up the "Ubuntu Software Center", found both wine and winetricks and hit "remove". To my disappointment, it didn't actually remove it. (It seemed to
