Half-Life 2 crashing with Wine 1.1.43 on Ubuntu 10.4
Hey guys,
I'm new to this forum and also to Linux. I hope this problem is not caused by my lack of knowledge, but I would guess not. Hopefully^^.
As the title says, I try to play Half-Life 2 with Wine, which is listed as platinum in the Appdb, so I expected no problems. But unfortunately, the game is crashing when I want to start a new game. I see the loading bar filling, but when it's

I've installed COD MW2 and followed the instructions as per the AppDB page:

However, I get garbled text...and when in-game, the lighting is a mess. I'd try editing the graphic settings, but I can't make out the text of the menu.

The city looks like a ghost city, doors opening and closing but nobody is there.
Can somebody help me what can be wrong? I tried different graphics options in the game, and different Direct 3d settings in the registry, but nothing seems to be working.

EVE crashing intermittently, not sure what to try
I just installed EVE, started it up no problem and started playing. Graphics looked great, sound was perfect, then 5 minutes later EVE crashes. Hmm...fire it back up, play for a bit longer than 5 minutes and poof crashes again. I can play somewhere between 2-10 minutes between crashes. Not sure what the deal is.

Wine Crashes with EVE-Online
Hey everyone, please excuse the briefness of the post but I am trying to get to bed after screwing with this for 6 hours.
To proceed:
9 times out of 10 when I launch Eve using "wine explorer /desktop=0,1,800x600 "F:\EVE\eve.exe"" the app just doesn't launch. It throws the splash screen then just minimizes it with no errors and leaves up the windowed session. When the app

Hard Reset Demo doesn't render textures
I've tried to run demo of Hard Reset and it has two big problems on Wine. First is that mouse isn't working. You get input only from keyboard but that can be solved with raw input patch. I used the one that is working with Deus Ex: Human Revolution:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6901628/raw2.patch
but second is much worse. Basically almost all of the textures aren't rendered. It starts

But in the game I have a big problem: the FPS are around 0.5. :(
I have tried some things, but I'm am not experienced enough with wine,
to fix this issue.
(Others have 30 FPS with similar hardware)

Possible bug with chromatic adaptation in grDevices::convertColor
It appears that the chromatic adaptation feature of `grDevices::convertColor`is broken, and likely has been for many years.? While a little surprising, it is an obscure enough feature that there is some possibility this is actually broken, as opposed to user error on my part.? If it turns out to the latter, I apologize in advance for spamming this list.
Consider:

grDevices::convertColor and colorRamp(space='Lab') Performance Improvements
`grDevices::convertColor` performance can be improved by 30-300x with
small changes to the code. `colorRamp(space='Lab')` uses `convertColor`
so it too benefits from substantial performance gains.
`convertColor` vectorizes explicitly over the rows of the input color
matrix using `apply`. The level-1 patch [1] illustrates a possible
minimal set of changes to achieve this with just R

Alpha channel in colorRamp() and colorRampPalette()
Hi all,
I had the need to create a colorbar considering the alpha channel of the colors, but colorRamp() and colorRampPalette() ignored the alpha argument in rgb(). So I performed some minor modifs. in their codes, as to support the interpolation using the alpha channel.
I guess that those simple modifications might be useful for other people, so perhaps it would be worth to add them to

Wine 1.0 and Ragnarok Online
I can't seem to get Ragnarok Online (iRO) to work with Wine.
Everytime I try, it crashes with an error that seems to be something people are experiencing on the normal servers. I'm trying to log in to Valkyrie, though I really don't think it matters too much.
Here's the deal:
I've used winecfg and told it to simulate a desktop at 1280 * 800.
