Can't get wine to run any programs: included error message.
Okay I just installed the latest ver of Ubuntu and then installed the beta ver of Wine because the non-beta told me that it wouldn't install on AMD x 64 type computers. So I just installed the beta Wine version and I can't get any programs to run at all using wine. I also am having many pages on this forum stalling out, so i tried to read the user manual but i am not able to load it.

Wine doesnt show close to all my files/apps...?
Definitely a noob here to linux (Eeebuntu / Ubuntu) and using Wine to access some of my items on the WinXP boot... I was looking around online and in the documentation but I didnt see anything relating to what I am experiencing, or at least didn't know how to ask the question... Basically when I am browsing my C: drive (NTFS partition) I see only 'Program Files' and 'Windows'

Special Place for Wine's Programs?
Is there a special place for the programs that actually come with Wine (winefile, winecfg, Wine's notepad, Wine IE, etc.) like the AppDB, but just for them? Because I was wondering, say for example, someone found a bug in winefile. Where would the corresponding AppDB[oid] page be for winefile to attach that bug to? It would be nice to go to a page and see all the known bugs for such a

Free NaturalReader 9.0 text-to-speech software won't work.
Free NaturalReader 9.0... http://www.naturalreaders.com/ ...will read highlighted text in WINE's Notepad but won't read highlighted text in any 64 bit or 32 bit Ubuntu 10.04 applications. When said text is selected and NaturalReader's play button is clicked, the text is de-selected and NR gives a 'no text selected' error message. I'm using the 64 bit version of Edubuntu

"The Disk is Not Ready"
Greetings, Running Xubuntu 8.04 on IBM R51 laptop with 1 Gb of RAM, 1.5 Ghz CPU. Downloaded and installed the latest wine from www.winehq.com. I installed Quicken 2007 without event. I wanted to restore a file from my Windows version of Quicken. I hit the radio button saying I'm not a new user and want to restore a file from the computer. I browse to the file and select it. Then I get a

Difference between samba 2.0.0beta4 and NT4.0 ?
Hi Samba-gurus, I have a problem with samba 2.0.0beta4 on solaris 2.5.1 (samba 1.9.18p10 behaves the same) : 1. I have a ordinary text-file on a samba-share (foo.txt). NT4.0 sees the samba-share (\\sun100\tmp) as a netdrive with the letter K:. I've done a 'net use k: \\sun100\tmp'. 2. I can doubleclick in NT4.0-explorer on foo.txt and notepad comes up correctly. 3. I

Internet Explorer
I have, I think, successfully installed Wine 1.0.1 on Ubuntu 9.04. Notepad seems to work and I managed to install an app although I uninstalled it again as the app didn't run. However, if I browse the c: drive and go to Program Files > Internet Explorer and try to run iexplore.exe all I get is a window with just Wine Internet Explorer in the window but no IE. Am I missing something?

running a .EXE
I have two computers with wine installed. The first is a Fedora Core 6 with all updates running wine-0.9.25. The second is a RHEL4 with wine-0.9.27 compiled from source (./configure, make, make install). In both cases I have a dual-boot partition with a WindowsXP NTFS, and I can install and run ntfs-3g with no problem. In the first system, I can navigate to the location of NOTEPAD.EXE and invoke

More on the archive bit saga
Thanks to all that have helped so far. I now have a test server running on Ubuntu 6.06 and Samba 3.0.22. I also configured ACL and user_xattr on the filesystem running the shares. But now I have very strange behavior that I hope someone has a clue about. User smith can open two files (foo.txt and faa.txt) with Notepad, Wordpad and Microsoft Word. The behavior for all three is different:

Page fault in xinerama_init
Trying to run any program in wine (even a program that doesn't exist, like notepad.exe) gives a page fault error. I think this is because I'm running dual head, and may have something to do with my video card, which is a ATI FireGL V3100. Here's the debug output: $ winedbg notepad.exe Invoking /usr/lib/wine/wine.bin winedbg.exe notepad.exe ... WineDbg starting on pid 000a First

Wine's Notepad
This may be a stupid question, but does anybody know why the Wine version of notepad won't run on Windows? I get the error that it is not a valid Win32 application when I try to run it. Shouldn't it be able to run in Windows or Wine seamlessly? The Microsoft version of notepad runs in both, so what's special (or not) about Wine notepad? John

Nothing more than solitaire...
I've tried lots and lots of stuff, fiddling with the various configuration options again and again. Solitaire works most of the time. Notepad doesn't let me enter text. Calc displays the numbers in the wrong place, but otherwise works. Street Atlas USA 8.0 barfs completely. Not even close, in spite of being in the database. Agent does not exhibit proper internal windowing behavior,

Strange problem between clients and SAMBA server
I have files many SAMBA file shares on a unix bot and clients are connecting to those file shares. 1. Win32 programs can't find files on FAT32 partitions
I'm having trouble with opening files on fat32 partitions with programs running under wine. The programs report that they can't find the file, even though it exists. I can open files on reiser and iso9660 partitions successfully. The simplest program I could find that exhibits this problem is notepad. If I provide the filename on the command line, notepad.exe tells me it can't find

Why can't one run Wine apps in Windows
Hello, from mere curiosity, I copied my .wine folder to Windows and tried running the *.exe files therein (such as notepad.exe, clock.exe etc), but absolutely nothing seems to happen. Is this normal? Also, is the reason Wine programs don't run in Windows a legal or a technical one? And, in the latter case, could you provide some detailed info on why this is so? Thanks for all your help.
