Adding a Registry Key to Wine
How do I add this registry key to wine: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3D] "UseGLSL"="disabled" As it says to do at http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=9432? In order to get Portal 1 working. When I open HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine in regedit there is no Direct3D. I tried making a .reg file containing the line

[LLVMdev] [GSoC] "Microsoft Direct3D shader bytecode backend" proposal
Here's the other of my proposals for this year's Google Summer of Code. (The first is on cfe-dev.) It was suggested to me by Dan Kegel (from the Wine project, they really want this). Title: Microsoft Direct3D shader bytecode backend Abstract: There is a distinct lack of open-source frameworks for compiling HLSL, the shader language used by Direct3D, into bytecode that D3D can

Squeezing every last drop of performance out of DirectX
Hi Folks, I have been using Wine for some time now to run Team Fortress 2 (and other HL2 based games) on my Ubuntu system. I was previously running Ubuntu 7.10 with an Athlon64 3800+, a 7600GT (256MB of RAM), and 2GB of DDR2 333MHz. Recently I upgraded to Ubuntu 8.10 (i386) with an AthlonX2 64 6000+, an 8800GT (1GB of RAM) and 4GB of DDR 800MHz. I was really hoping for a nice performance bump

Tron 2.0 & DirectX 9.0a
Tron 2.0 starts up, offers the init menu, and works fine until you try and actually start the game. At that point, it goes blank for about 5 seconds and then says "To play tron 2.0, you need DirectX 9.0a and a supported video card with hardware TnL." If you go to the 'display' menu it says that the DX9 renderer is selected, but has nothing listed for resolutions or displays. Is

Does wine bottleneck framerate?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcwieeBEySc My performance doesn't even come close to this even at low resolution and overclocked, and I have the 512Mb version of this card, this guy has the 256mb version and I have the same settings, i've seen people run some really high-end games on this like crysis at decent settings, (not high just decent). Does wine actually bottleneck performance on

Wine and ConquerOnline
Hello, I'm using Linux for about two months now. Even before switching to Linux I have heard of Wine. I got my system running relativelly stable (I use Slackware 10.2, kernel-2.6.14 and KDE 3.4), but still have some issues - sound being one of them. But that's my problem. I'd like to contribute to the wine project somehow. Perhaps starting as a test user for some application.

Call for help with Wine 1.0 testing
Hi Folks, One key goal for Wine 1.0 is that all of its conformance tests run successfully on nearly all systems. We would really like your help in figuring out how close we are to that goal. To that end, if you are comfortable with checking Wine out via git, could you please visit this page: http://wiki.winehq.org/MakeTestFailures and follow the instructions there? (It's really simple;

Who asking users to install native DirectX?
More and more poor clueless users getting to nowhere installing that stuff according to some howtos. Who are writing those? And why are they directing people to install it in the first place? The only person I've found who created that howto everyone links to - Tom Wickline states EXPLICITLY THAT THIS IS FOR TESTING PURPOSES ONLY!!! AND NOT TO BE USED WITH ANY REAL LIFE APPLICATION! Are

Wine on non-Unix platforms
Greetings everyone. Let me start by stating that I appreciate the enormous undertaking that Wine has been, and I am not suggesting that the ideas I will ask about in this post would be easy (or even possible) to implement, so there's no need to flame the n00b. As I understand it, Wine is an implementation of the Windows API for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems (Mac OS X, FreeBSD,

DirectX and Wine
I'm having problems compiling and linking a simple DirectX program with Wine. The problem is: a global variable c_dfDIMouse should be declared in dinput.h and defined in library dinput. c_dfDIMouse really is declared in dinput.h, but it seems that c_dfDIMouse is not declared in library dinput. During linking I get the error: undefined reference to `c_dfDIMouse'. Anyone got a clue? Thanks

DirectX questions
Hello all, Many games include a DirectX bundle in their installation setup, therefore the WINE DirectX implementation becomes overriden when we test games. However, not only this prevent the testing of WINE's DirectX implementation, the bundle they install is usually outdated. I was wondering therefore if preventing the DirectX install is possible, and if yes, would it be useful for WINE

windows native dlls
I've read that to get some apps working I could try coping files from native win to wine dir. It was said that some dlls do not work. I remember there was gdiplus, user32, kernel, and directx. I would like to know if there is exact list of dlls that are not going to work with wine. Or if there's script to copy dlls from native win install to wine dir.
