Broken D3D?
Hi guys. I've got a bit of a problem that I can't quite figure out and I've not been able to find anything useful in relation to this issue. I've searched through these forums and on google, etc.. and have found nothing so far that has helped. My problem is with Fallout 3, which I know isn't quite working entirely yet anyway. It won't even start, but should according to

Trivial API question
I know - I like to futz. I''m thinking of changing the way I pass
optional arguments. This is from EventLog:

"category" => 0x2,
"event_id" => 0x3,
"data" => "Warning! Danger Will Robinson!",

AppDB instructions
Hey Gang,
I'm new here so I get to as a few dumb questions without feeling too dumb about it... Several posts have been kind enough to include links to the AppDB pages, which I have been using, but I don't find there the instructions people allude to. All I find in AppDB pages is lists and rankings and images and basically a report of how well it works and less about how to make it

z-machine + asterisk = fun!
I was tinkering with Asterisk and the Festival text-to-speech engine, and
wrote some short Asterisk::AGI scripts to read back live weather reports.
After that, I thought I needed something more interactive to work with...
Then I had a flashback to 1996, first year university, standing in the C
& O club at the University of Waterloo, where someone had just pulled out
their US Robotics Palm

Glued-together private namespaces
I've been goofing with this all day with 2.0.15 and I'm starting to
realize that either a) I'm not that smart, b) it's been so long since
I messed with namespaces that I'm going about it completely wrong, or
c) it's just not possible. I haven't posted 'doveconf -n' and other
details, because mainly I'm just looking for 'yes, this is possible'

[LLVMdev] llvm-poolalloc compilation failed
Chris,
I performed the steps you gave below to check out llvm-poolalloc. When
I want to get new updates made to llvm-poolalloc, do I perform the
following commands?

<Hit return for an empty password>
cd llvm/projects
cvs -d :pserver:anon at llvm.org:/var/cvs/llvm update -r release_19

Left/right hand side characters
Hello all
Is there a way reducing the number of characters in a list so that just
the left n numbers of characters is given?
For example, If I have a list, listnames, which consists of 4 strings of
6 characters;
>listnames
[1] "item12" "item34" "item56" "item78"
Is there a way to reduce this so only the 5 characters on the lefthand
side are

rails app in professional development environment
I''ve been working on my rails app which will be a web app that i want to
launch as a business. Being new to rails i''m wondering what professional
web app developers do for their development environment. Right now i''m
developing and testing on my laptop. I think i''ve gotten far enough along
where i want to put it up on a hosting machine to develop further,

hi there,
i was wondering if someone knew how to make fallout tactics works on wine ? (wine 1.1.8)
here when i start the game,
i get those two error message popup windows:
"C:\dev\phoenix\display\win32\win32_window.cpp(873): **fatal error**:

iscsi storage, LACP or Multipathing | Migration or rebuild?
Hi,
I do have one iscsi storage with 4 GBit nics of which currently only one
is configured with an ip and which is in productive use by one cent os
6.3 server.
Doing some research brought me to the idea to use some nic bonding or
multipathing for that storage, but multipathing I did about four or five
years ago only once :)

win32-mmap test suite
I just tried running tc_mmap.rb and noticed that something rather curious
seems to happen. The call to Mmap.new in setup seems to cause the test
suite to just exit without ever actually running the tests.
I reduced the test suite to just this bit of code. This works, although the
final test (TypeError) does not pass - no exception in thrown.
This is 1.8.1 on Win2k.
Any ideas?

New User
Hi,
I just downloaded Wine to try it out, and despite being a tinkerer with half a brain i cant figure out how to install windows games using it.
I have looked online to no avail, the stuff i have read has not helped mostly because im trying to install a game from its DVD and Wine wont do it unless the EXE is given permission to install as a program and you cant edit files on the DVD as they are

Wine asks to set "HardwareAcceleration" = "Emulation" and it is already set.
Hello,
I wonder if somebody has an idea what could be a reason behind this
error message. I am running wine version installed as rpm for Fedora
Core: wine-20041201-1fc3winehq. This actually happens for two games, one
of them - fallout. I am able to run some windows apps with sound (flash
player). Fallout displays initial screen and then crashes with this
error message (apparently when it

Tribes 1.x Crashes on Launch (Appdb page lied!)
I tried to get this game running a few months ago, but couldn't and just gave up. I got back to it recently but even now I can't get it to run and I have no idea whats it is doing. The Appdb page says that it runs perfectly fine, but no matter what I try I can't even get it to launch.
The installer runs fine, and so does the 1.8 to 1.11 patcher.
But when I run it, it gives me a
