Windowing bug under KDE4.1
I've replaced my video card and am now having MUCH better results with CounterStrike:Source (I love Wine!). Most of my problems were due to a defective EVGA 9600GT. However, I discovered a new windowing bug today with CS:S and other Source-based games (I verified the same behavior under the Zombie Panic total conversion) running under KDE4.1 (no Compiz, Kubuntu 8.10b1). Do this: 1) Start

Tired of Fedora, shopping for a new OS. Upgrade from F8 ? CentOS kernel versions ?
I've been a RH/Fedora guy since the RH8 days. When Fedora came along, I moved to it, but its been a bit painful beta testing software all the time. I ran Ubuntu for a while, but I found their package management to be difficult... I do a lot of technical work, development and loading and building special stuff. I much prefer RPMs over other methods of package distribution. Presently

Installing latest Wine on Debian
I installed Wine using the Lamaresh repo for Debian, but unlike openSUSE's repos, I found out that it installs and old version: 1.1.42. Is there some repo for Debian where I can install latest version from? Or should I better try building it from source? Sorry if it's a silly question. Thanks.

[LLVMdev] [GSoC] "Microsoft Direct3D shader bytecode backend" proposal
Here's the other of my proposals for this year's Google Summer of Code. (The first is on cfe-dev.) It was suggested to me by Dan Kegel (from the Wine project, they really want this). Title: Microsoft Direct3D shader bytecode backend Abstract: There is a distinct lack of open-source frameworks for compiling HLSL, the shader language used by Direct3D, into bytecode that D3D can

Name resolution error help needed
Hello, I've checked the FAQ and followed steps I can find there. I made sure my /etc/hosts is correct as in the FAQ. I tried complete uninstall/reinstall of Wine and data. Iceweasel and all other normal linux programs work fine to resolve addresses. WoW under Wine works fine. Fresh install of Firefox for Windows only works under Wine if I use a IP address instead of a hostname, so Wine

libwine-alsa, etc. still relevant?
This came up before when debian upgrade wanted to remove these because of their being the previous version. Now all the version numbers are consistant. Deborphan lists them as orphans--no longer used! So ... are all these provided in the "main" wine library and these packages actually orphans? If so, why are they still around? If not, what is going on? Packages are from the

Direct3d with ATI Radeon Problem
Hi, I'm having trouble running 3d apps including the Direct3d test in Dxdiag under wine. I think that the problem is that dxdiag displays my Graphics card as this: X11 Windowing System This is obviously wrong because I am running this on a Radeon 2600 Pro. When I try to run the Direct3d test It just crashes Wine. I am running the latest 8.04 Ubuntu with the Latest Fglrx Graphics drivers.
