Sorry to bother you about this but after trashing
8 CD-Rs I'm out if ideas :-).
I've not been able to get this working with anything
other than the standard Slackware kernels....
I made a copy of the Slackware 'live' reference
filesystem CD (8.0), added my own 2.2.16 kernel with
crypto, then wrote the CD, as per the instructions.
I've checked and double checked all the

DISPLAY=unix:10.0 and localhost blues
I have just finished battling with this and noticed it
has been reported on HP systems too.
Problem ist, if you have an sshrc file with:
XKEY=`cat -`
-n "$DISPLAY" && $XAUTH add $DISPLAY $XKEY
then with SSH 3.1 this mysteriously fails, as the
DISPLAY is now localhost:10.0 instead of $HOST:10.0
I imagine the reasoning behind the change is to
accomodate hosts that have no

Any good examples of survey processing?
I'm trying to get a semi-automated approach to
processing survey data that I'm getting from
mod_survey, an Apache-based web survey tool.
It looks like one can do this with enough experience
in writing R routines. Before I start from scratch, is
there a sample file that shows good techniques for
producing labeled graphs and tables from survey data
with R? I've looked but not found what

read.table problem with column headers
When I use read.table I can't get my column names to
line up with my data.
The data file has survey response data, and each line
starts with a unique key field (which should be the
row name when it gets read in, right? I've only been
using R for one day so bear with me)
The first row in the file has column names, and the
first name is "Key", followed by "Age" and so

Re: RE Vertical bars with barchart()
Hi,
[I'mm cc-ing r-help on this, since some others might be interested (Tony
Rossini is, at least)]
Yes, I saw your mail and was wondering about what would be the best approach
to do it. It's definitely not trivial, mainly because Trellis is not designed
to handle factors on the x-axis (chiefly for convenience, as factors typically
have long names which are difficult to write on the

Repeated measures ANOVA
Dear friends
I am not sure that I am conducting this analysis correctly. I would really appreciate if someone can verify what I've done.
I conducted repeated measures ANOVA for some bugs data. These bugs were measured repeatedly over 32 weeks at the same trapping plots. I want to test a full model for the effect of time ("week") (the "within subject" variable), and the

Multiple MD 3200 (Intel 537) cards on a single system.
Has anyone been able to sucessfully use 2-4 X101P clones with Asterisk on a
single system ?
I'm using one Encore MD 3200 modem sucessfully, alongside a TDM400P (3 FXS, 1
FXO) and would like to be able to use up to 4 X101P on a single system. In
most cases I'll have 2 or 3 instead.
I understand all the issues with interrupt sharing and PC motherboard quality.
Just need to know if any

I often have a data frame like this example
data.frame(sq=c(1,1,1,2,2,3,3,3,3),area=c(1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3),habitat=c("garden","garden","pond","field","garden","river","garden","field","field"))
for each "sq" I have multiple "habitat"s each with an associated "area".

Help with gamm errors
Dear All
Hopefully someone out there can point out what I am missing! I have a
(large, several hundred) dataset of gardens in which over two years the
presence/absence of a particular bird species is noted each week. I have
good reason to believe there is a difference between the two years in the
weekly proportion of gardens and would like to assess this, before going on

problem with interaction in lmer even after creating an "interaction variable"
Dear all,
I have a problem with interactions in lmer. I have 2 factors (garden and
gebiet) which interact, plus one other variable (home), dataframe arr. When
I put:

it writes:
/Error in lme4::lFormula(formula = biomass ~ home + garden:gebiet + (1 | :

In the lmer help I found out that if not

ActiveRecord, insert and not auto-incremented primary keys...
Hi,
After playing while with ActiveRecord, I''m surprised it isn''t easier to insert data into a table whose primary key is not auto-incremented by the database server.
The following code...

Encore 4.1
Marcus,
I am running Encore 4.1.0.0 on Windows XP. The graphic tool works for chords
but the text tool crashes whenever I exit its input mode. I copy the TTF's to
the Windows font folder and it still does not work.
So, I just moved the TTF's to the Windows font folder without success. Do you
have a solution?
Very much appreciative.
Sincerely,
Carl Protho

Encore/sundance boards?
I have this cheap "ENCORE 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter" which comes
with its own driver that compiles to 'sundance.ko' and performs bad (30%
packet loss) on a fully updated CentOS 4.4 box. This brand, model and driver
have worked OK for me on some other CentOS installations, none of which are
4.4. Short of replacing the board, which you can bet I will do, can anybody
