Network time sync and reverse NetBios name lookup
I made a somewhat deep check for time synchronization and I
couldn't find what I was looking for. What I need to do is synchronize
the clock on a Linux box to the clock on an NT server. I can't use NTP
or any other protocol because the NT box doesn't understand it. Any
pointers would be great.
The second issue is that I need to do (if possible) a reverse

Intrusion Suspected, Advice Sought
I run OS X 10.3.7 on a PowerMac MDD G4 on a cable broadband connection.
I have reason to think my system has been tampered with. Security
features in Mac OS X have been left unlocked (Preference Pane - Users)
even though a master lock has always been set in the Security
Preference Pane. This locks all other important preference panes which
could be tampered with. Also permissions have been

Freeware windows ogg audio CD burner?
Does such a thing exist?
I know I can convert the oggs to wavs and then to the audio CD, but it would
be good to do it in one step.
If there is nothing available right now, are there any freeware /
open-source products in the pipeline?
Thanks

Widespread implementation of rsync
I came to know about rsync algorithm for transferring files few days ago. The algorithm provides an efficient way to transfer files from one computer to another over a slow communication link. But I have been wondering why don't we see a widespread implementation of rsync in most popular file transfer tools.
I know that the algorithm was conceived by Andrew Tridgell and Paul Mackerras from

Text handling broke.
Howdy,
Sometime between Dec 14 and Jan 30, a small portion of text handling
seems to have broken. I have a schematic editor application (schedit)
which I have been running under wine for 7 or 8 months now.
What I do is select an "Add text" menu item, a dialog pops up and I type
in some text and click ok. Normally then the text would show up attached
to the mouse, and I can move it to

Latex editor recommendations
This question is not oriented towards R, but is posted here because I
have the impression that there are at least some Latex users among the
contributors. The question is: What editors for Latex are to be
recommended? I have located one:
http://www.latexeditor.org/
What other alternatives are there? I am (for the most part) using
Windows XP.

rsync anti-FUD
I'm working on a commercial project that would benefit immensely from
the use of rsync. However, I cannot convince management that rsync is a
worthy tool due to the rote "it's shareware, it's not supported" FUD.
Are there any documented, corportate users of rsync? Testimonials? In
short, how do I drag this risk-averse group out of the FTP age into the
rsync present?

Windows Help files
I have a shareware product that I sell that is windows only (due to the development system, it never will be ported to Mac or Linux). I have been testing it on WINE for about two years and now it almost works with latest version. I want to pass on some info to the makers of the compiler (so mine and other apps will run under wine). One problem I have is that the CHM Help system does not work on

Wine AppDB etiquette ?
Dont know if iys the done thing, but I contacted the writer of an app I
maintain in AppDB, to point out that his app runs perfectly under Linux and
Wine.
Straught away he modified his webpage to include the fact, and a link to the
AppDB page for his application.
Cheers,
Ron.

CRLF/LF Conversion
Hi everybody!
I hope that you are not already "pissed off" of all the crlf/lf conversion
discussion between dos and unix ;-)
Concerning that topic I have a question / suggestion:
This is what we have:
We are using a Win NT 4.0 Server with Win95 clients. Additionally we have a
Sun (Solaris 2.5) running in the same network. To access the Sun in character
mode we use a terminal

Creating a Data Frame from an XML
Hello,
I'm attempting to read information from an XML into a data frame in R using
the "XML" package. I am unable to get the data into a data frame as I would
like. I have some sample code below.
*XML Code:*

Data I want in a data frame:

Add rank column to data frame as in SQL...
Hopefully this is an easy problem...
I'm trying to add a partitioned rank column to a data frame where the
rank is calculated separately across a partition by categories, the
way you could easily do in SQL. I found this solution in the archives
that looked like it might work:

The example has a data frame with several car companies,

Win95 Full System Backup to Samba box?
I have a small home network running three Win95 pcs with a Samba/Linux
server (thanks, Andrew and Linus!!!). All works well.
The question now is what I can do to make a full system backup (including
hidden and system files) from the Win95 boxes to the 8mm tape drive on
the Linux box.
I know I could use smbmount to mount the Win95 drive, and then do a tar or
cpio backup, but I'm not nearly

Ford Tech Serv app does not work
This just an FYI.
Yesterday I updated to top of trunk wine and rebuilt and installed.
I have a Ford Service CD (for 1999 models) and wine on the exe does not
work
(on an old Windows ME laptop it all works).
The startup.exe sort of seems to work AFAICT, but when it's done and the
app exe started
the app exe ( installed on disk) cannot seem to find

tftpd server
Hi
In the pxelinux page, is referred that the tftpd server from
http://tftpd32.jounin.net as working with pxelinux.
However, from the tests I've made, it seems that the 'tsize' option is not
supported.
Anyone has knowledge of a working TFTPD server that runs on Windows NT4?
p.s. it can be shareware, I just want to test it with NT4, I have had
success with the 'builtin'
