Coles OnLine under Wine? (Australian retailer)
Has anyone had any sucess with the Coles OnLine tool under Wine? I got
the installer to run without any pain, but the main thing doesn't seem to
want to go. I'm actually having trouble just knowing what to run. I've
found the only installed .exe, which seems to be something called
WinSurfer, but it barfs and puts up an empty dialogue box :(
I can supply the output with various flags

Wine & openGL
I have Codeweavers-wine installed and working. I'm able to run Lotus
Notes 5.0.2 and a couple of other win applications. I've installed
Half-Life and it does run, but only with software rendering. I have an
nVidia Gforce GTX(?) and my openGL works for linux games. How do I get
wine to use openGL. I modified the codeweavers source rpm to enable
openGL but something still seems to be

Half-Life sound problem
Hi,
finally got HL to run at 1024 in opengl. But there are some things
which i'm not happy about:
1) Sound lags about 1 sec after the game, EAX doesn't work.
2) Some fonts don't get found (which messes up the scoreboard).
I'm running Mandrake7.2 with kernel 2.4.2 and XFree 4.0.1 and
nvidia's 0.9.6 drivers. Some things i've found out so far:

I was trying to run Diablo II under WINE, but I receive a "Direct3D
failed to initialize" error in a dialog box. The log says this:
***** DirectDraw error: Failed to get gamma control interface! - <

I tryed to run in both 640x480x16 and 640x480x8, but both give the same
error message. I'm using Linux 2.4.1, XFree86 4.0.1 on a GeForce256 DDR

Remote win98 refusing to connect to samba server
The problem: attempting to connect to a samba network drive from a
Windows 98 machine gives me the error message: "Not logged on".
Background:
We have been running samba to serve a number of w95 clients for a couple
of years. Some of the clients are remote and we don't bother with running
nmbd(8), so all clients have LMHOSTS files.
The problem is related to a new W98 machine

Project "Muncher" the next step in wine
Ok, It's a lame name but it was the best I could come up with after
spinning around in a desk chair for a few minutes. Here is the general
idea behind it.
Once, in an interview, Steve Balmber, the CEO of Microsoft threw some
standard MS FUD out about Linux being a poor choice becaue each distro
tends to "mutate" linux and has no solid direction

AW: lost??
Hi Greg,
it's easy: Configure searches for the original C++-Compiler, "cc". I presume
you're using gcc (I do so on SUN Solaris), and it should be no problem to
make configure see what it wants:
Just link "gcc" to "cc" in /usr/local/bin (or whereever "gcc" is installed),
and it should work, 'cause the two compilers are fully compatible.

summary of responses to "firewalls, a practical question"
A little over a week ago I posted asking about setting up a linux box
between an existing router and a switch in order to provide firewall
service to a subnet of machines. I was curious what experience others
had with this type of setup in terms of machines, configurations, and
the appropriateness of using linux in this manner.
There were basically three issues discussed in replies: hardware

New TransGaming Patch
This worked with:
Wine CVS from Jan 29th + Transgaming patch
XFree 4.0.2
NVidia drivers 0.9.6
Had to turn off DGA, and force wine to manage created windows, otherwise I
get a glXMakeCurrent error when it tries to set the current GLX rendering
context.
The frame rate isn't quite windows, but the demo is certainly playable.
Good luck,

ipportfw - security
Hi
Are there any known security holes or necessary precautions in using port
forwarding with ipportfw?
I'm planning on forwarding ports from an outer firewall/router (connected
to the Internet) to a host in the DMZ, then on from the DMZ host to the
inner firewall, and finally from the inner firewall to some host on the
inside.
Thanks,
Jens

copy d:\bugs.ps \\ouessant\lexmark
after having deleted all the samba log files and restarted the SMBd daemon from the SWAT Web interface.
This leads to the INTERNAL ERROR, see samba.oulx
Now, to locate the problem, I tried the same kind of command on the same file, bugs.ps, but using the SMBCLIENT application from the Linux server itself, without changing anything, nor restarting the SMBd

Help with windwos 2000 and Samba 2.0.3 / can't see shares
I reported this (or tried, I emailed the bug list with the results with
debug set high). Both 2.0.7 pre1 and the CVS today won't show shares.
I note that tcpdump apparently shows that it is trying to negotiate an
old protocol - I can see the decode of the Win98 traffic, but not W2K.
It fails on the routine that does the get next share name.
Basically with W2K, smbclient -L won't show
