The Perils of PowerPoint
Hi all,

pfpro4r - Ruby bindings for Payflow Pro
pfpro4r is a set of bindings for [2]Verisign''s Payflow Pro SDK.
If you''re distributing an app in Ruby/Rails and you use Verisign''s
Payflow Pro, you basically have three options (paraphrased from the
[3]RoR Wiki):
1. Call the Java/Perl/PHP API from Ruby. (Ewww...)
2. Call Verisign''s command line scripts. (DO NOT DO THIS. This is

How many gusets can I run with Centos 5.2
Hi,
how many gusets can I run with Centos 5.2? RH EL 5 is limeted to 4
guests while the advanced server is unlimeted.
We like to migrate a couple of small physical servers and some
test/development-systems to virtual systems.
Thanks for any hints.
Best regards

proto and baseenv()
I understand why the following happens ($.proto delegates to get,
which ascends the parent hierarchy up to globalenv()), but I still
find it anti-intuitive:
> z <- 1
> y <- proto(a=2)
> y$z
[1] 1
Although this is well-documented behavior; wouldn't it uphold the
principle of least surprise to inherit instead from baseenv() or
emptyenv()? (See attached patch.)

Iptables - flooding console
Hi,
We are trying to track some specific rules using LOG as target.
Everything is working well but the problem is that iptables is flooding
the console with LOG messages.
We tried --log level 4 on iptables rules but it didn't work.
We fixed the problem changing KLOGD_OPTIONS value in
/etc/sysconfig/syslog to:
KLOG_OPTIONS="-c 4"
Is it the best option or we are missing something?

Create Virtual Machine via HTTP or FTP
Hi,
I'm trying to create a Virtual Machine using Network Install mode (I
tried HTTP and FTP).
The HTTP/FTP server where the installation files are located is the Host
Machine.
The URL that I'm using is: http://192.168.1.104/inst and the Automatic
detect option detects the OS without problem.
When the installation starts I got an error:

Extracting some rows from a data frame - lapses into a vector
I have a data frame with one column "x":
> str(data)
`data.frame': 20 obs. of 1 variable:
$ x: num 0.0495 0.0986 0.9662 0.7501 0.8621 ...
Normally, I know that the notation dataframe[indexes,] gives you a new
data frame which is the specified set of rows. But I find:
> str(data[1:10,])
num [1:10] 0.0495 0.0986 0.9662 0.7501 0.8621 ...
Here, it looks like the operation

lme, two random effects, poisson distribution
Hello,
I have a dataset concerning slugs. For each slug, the number of
pumps per one time slot was counted. The number of pumps follows
Bi(30, p) where p is very small, thus could be approximated by
Poisson dist. (# of pumps is very often = 0)
The slugs were observed during 12 time slots which are correlated in
time as AR(1). The time slots are divided into two categories:

Windows 2008 Server, GPLPV drivers, Qemu upstream and BSoD
Hi,
I just tested booting Windows 2008 server 64 bit using GPLPV drivers.
It seems to work with qemu traditional, but with Qemu upstream
(1.1-stable) there is a BSOD when using the most recent signed GPLPV
drivers (paging fault in non-paged area).

audio cuts out during IVR
Hi all,
I'm running 1.6.2.0-rc6, and I'm running into a problem: sometimes the
audio vanishes in the middle of listening to an IVR background prompt.
This happens with both analog (Digium card) and IAX2 incoming calls.
The prompts are stored in ulaw format (and the IAX2 calls use ulaw).
The asterisk console claims that the IVR prompts are proceeding in the
expected fashion, but I
