Windows Screensavers under Wine
Is there a way to persuade Wine to run a windows screensaver? (Assuming it is installed under Wine)? -- If you wrestle in the mud with a pig. you both get dirty, and the pig likes it. -- Dave Dawson

Windows Genuine Advantage
If this is off subject or has already been addressed, sorry. "Windows Genuine Advantage" looks like a move to make wine worthless. What I mean is that M$ development API pushes windows developers' applications to require you install IE 6.0 (soon 7.0) or later, making IE a key part of wine. If IE requires Genuine MicroSoft (Windows Genuine Advantage) to install, then most if not all

Can't Install MSWORD
I could not get Wine to install Microsoft Word 2000 OS: Debian Testing Wine version 0.9.24 The Word .exe file never showed up in the Office subdirectory I captured the errors; it appeared that Wine crashed at some point. The question is: can Office 2000 or parts of it be installed under this wine version, and if not, which version will install it? I have lost track. Here is the file contents:

PrintMaster 7.0 *nearly*, *very* nearly printing properly
I have PrintMaster 7.0 Classic (I assume) and it will in fact print, which is more than it will do on Win XP, but Wine printing is not able to handle the coloured fonts correctly. Is there a tweak that can be applied? By downloading a dll for instance? The only Wine error related to printing was: fixme:commdlg:PRINTDLG_WMCommandA No handling for print quality combo box yet. That didn't

N1MM Logger won't run
This is a freeware program written in Visual Basic 6.0 which I would dearly love to get working under Wine. It is available here: http://pages.cthome.net/n1mm/ It appears to install (with a few errors and fixmes reported). Then when I ran it, the program coughed up a VB runtime error and died (also a few errors and fixmes). I am running Wine 0.9.16 which I compiled from source in Debian Etch,

IE install with Wine 0.9.12 under Debian Sarge
Has anyone got any Internet Explorer to install (and then hopefully run) with Wine under Debian Sarge? I tried all the methods I could find and have not been able to successfully do this. I even tried wiping out the old ~/.wine dir and starting fresh, but to no avail. I would appreciate info on this. Learn Typing Quick & Easy - unusual message from app
A friend of mine gave me a Cd with the "Learn Typing Quick & Easy" program. It installs, but when I ran it, quit with the following message 'Wrong version of operating system; requires Windows NT 3.51 (build 1057 or above) Maybe it would run if I could give it the required version build number (I tried setting the Windows version to NT 3.51, but that didn't satisfy it).

NAT and Wine
How can I configure my Wine setup to be able to connect through my router consistantly? I mean that certain apps, notably ie6setup.exe seem to see the lan, but not be able to look any further. Am I overlooking something? Thanks -- If you wrestle in the mud with a pig. you both get dirty, and the pig likes it. -- Dave Dawson

Wine message re glx - what can I do about it?
I am getting the following message from the stripsaver2 install and wondered if this affects other programs with graphics: wine: creating configuration directory '/home/dave/.wine'... err:wgl:wgl_initialize_glx glx_version as 1.2 and GLX_SGIX_fbconfig extension is unsupported. fixme:wininet:InternetGetConnectedState always returning LAN connection.
The line in the subject appears in several programs, and may be preventing some of them from working. Is there a work-around? My system is Debian Etch and Wine 0.9.31 with a previous ~/.wine I am connecting to the internet through a router/firewall to a broadband service. Ideas? Comment on Wine vs WinXP
Wine will now do something that Windows XP cannot. That is, printing from PrintMaster 7.0 works under Wine (up to a point), whereas it doesn't work at all under WinXP. I think that is maybe a milestone! -- If you wrestle in the mud with a pig. you both get dirty, and the pig likes it. -- Dave Dawson

closing file with close(file) *silently*
Hi All, I am writing a function that reads a file in myfile = file('myfile.raw', 'rb') . . . . . close(myfile) No matter what, I get the warning Warning message: closing unused connection 3 (myfile.raw) Since the whole thing is in a function, I'd like to avoid unecessary noise for the user, and I'd like to kill the warning -- without having to mess with global options.

Message with multiple attachments
Hello. I am implementing a system that allows you to add multiple attachments to a message. This raises a problem tho. If I try to upload the attachments _BEFORE_ adding the message (thus creating an ID to relate the attachment to), I will need to find a way to store the attachments on a temporary way that will allow me to attach one another later. But, if the user closes the browser before

Using opus on ATMEL 32-bit RISC microcontroller
Hi, First of all, I'm quite new to opus. I'm trying to use fixed point opus on an ATMEL AT32UC3B0512. I added the opus source into mine sw tree, I trim off code I don't use (eg. arm, x86 folders) It compiles, but the generated image is too big to fit in the flash. Have I any way to reduce the source footprint? (Eg. throw away unecessary files, if there are any..) Thanks, Daniele.

why is there a timeout in _accept_connection (icecast/src/connection.c)
Hi all, I was wondering why there is a timeout (100msec) in the _acception_connection function (icecast/src/connection.c) where it calls the util_timed_wait_for_fd. To me this seems to incur unecessary load on the machine on which the icecast server runs, since each time the timeout expires some more user time is used up by the process. In my particular setup I run an icecast server 24/7, but
