Has anyone got any Internet Explorer to install (and then hopefully run) with Wine under Debian Sarge? I tried all the methods I could find and have not been able to successfully do this. I even tried wiping out the old ~/.wine dir and starting fresh, but to no avail. I would appreciate info on this. The original Sarge one, one from http://www.backports.org/ or a self-compiled CVS one? If you use the Sarge version I'd recommend you to update because it is very old. The last time I tried it it worked with this description: http://blog.drinsama.de/erich/en/linux/2006040302-msie-on-linux OK most of it are security things and I ignored them. Points 5 and 6 are the important ones. In the current CVS it might be possible to install the IE without the DCOM98 and DLL overriding things but I can't say this for sure. Greetings KGJ

Hopefully the patches will be merged quickly once Alexandre returns from vacation, then this should work for you, so check back in a couple weeks. -- James Hawkins

That is, 0.9.12, compiled from source. I'll look at the URL above and see. Thanks -- ...Dave Dawson "If you wrestle in the mud with a pig, you both get dirty, and the pig likes it."

I'm not really in a panic, but there are a few apps I think would run if they could grab msie. I see that some apps can grab Firefox and use it. Neat stuff! -- ...Dave Dawson "If you wrestle in the mud with a pig, you both get dirty, and the pig likes it."

Well, actually I tried that too, and it did not work. But see James Hawkins earlier response. It seems that he has been able to install IE without such fuss. His patches will soon be merged. I only want to use IE for the occasional program that _insists_ on using it and also for the odd website that _insists_ on needing it (sometimes that is really so). Wine has it's own built-in IE app now, which will be of some help, but sometimes not I think. It can also bring up the default browser in the desktop being used, so little by little Wine is 'getting there'/ -- ...Dave Dawson "If you wrestle in the mud with a pig, you both get dirty, and the pig likes it."

If you remove the enties after wine has created the directory the changes do not have an effect. You can either remove / rename your ~/.wine directory or remove the three file from ~/.wine/drive_c/windows and ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32 directories. Hope it is correct like i explained it Bye Stefan
