Asterisk Startups
Does anyone know of any startups using Asterisk? What about established companies? Ones that are hiring would be nice.... :)

NEWS: SIP Firmware Available for Cisco 7970
I've just recieved a copy of the new SIP firmware for the Cisco 7970,
those of you with Cisco accounts may wish to try it (shock horror I'm
sticking with SCCP).
This coincides with the release of v8 firmware for all Cisco phones (and
for those of you running Sergio's chan_sccp v8 works fine)
The firmware is now also (and for the 7970 SIP, only) distributed in
".cop" files,

Why Aastra uses 48V whereas other IP Phones use much less, i.e. 5-12V
Hi,
Why Aastra phones use more electricity, i.e. 48VDC whereas other phones use
much less, e.g. Grandstream and Linksys both use only 5VDC. I first thought
it was because of PoE, but the ones with 5VDC also run fine on PoE. What is
the difference in power consumption then?

Operator Panels?
Ok, we're trying to use Asterisk as a PBX in our office. Our original
plan was to use a Cisco 7960 with a 7914 attached. Short story is, no
one updated chan_sccp in a long time and the 7914 is questionable at
best anyway from what I've heard. We couldn't ever get chan_sccp to
compile, I went to an older version of Asterisk and that broke some of
our SIP devices. We tried using a couple

BAD echo problems with Sangoma and Telstra
Hello,
We have an Asterisk 1.0.9 machine with a Sangoma A101 card fitted, it is
connected to a Telstra OnRamp E1 in Melbourne, Australia. The problem
we are experiencing is extreme echo and clicking noises.
These are only audible to the calling party, e.g. the person calling in
from the PSTN to Asterisk via the E1, the person on the SIP handset
cannot hear any echo or clicking, only the

Quad BRI card
Hi all
Does Digium make a quad BRI card? I can't see anything of the sort on their
page but I thought they might call it something else in the States.
Failing that, can anyone recommend a make/model that would handle 4 BRI ports?

My Grandstream works, but my X-Lite doesn't:no sound after 5sec
This is troubling. Shouldn't your hubs/routers autosense the 10MBPS?

headsets for linksys/sipura phones?
I was just browsing my local suppliers list of headsets - not a single
one with a single 2.5mm jack. Either USB or 1-2 3.5mm jacks.
Can anyone recommend a headset that works with e.g. SPA-921 and -941?

thankyou both very much for your swift responses and helpful insight...
While my knowledge of administrating Asterisk is fairly decent, i must say
my knowledgebase and ability in troubleshooting it is fairly lousy...
all these wonderful suggestions you have had about turning this log on here,
etc sounds great, but i don't know where to begin on that! how do you

Polycom IP 301 is slow
Hi guys, I've been using a Polycom IP 301 for a couple of weeks now and
find that it's extremely slow for configuring. For instance, it takes
several minutes to boot up, apply any changes via the web interface takes
at least a minute, etc. Is this normal behaviour? Is there anything that
can be done about it?
Thanks,

SPA942 quality for a Bank
Before committing to about 50 of the spa942's, I like to take a last
poll from those on the list to identify any negative issues that might
be associated with the audio, functionality, early failures, etc, on the
spa942.
Expecting to deploy these using existing cat5 cabling and both rj45
jacks. Been using three of theme in a short term demo with the customer,
but the demo systems has

Receptionist phones
I've been playing with Asterisk for a few weeks and it's working great.
I have a question about getting multi-line receptionist phones working.
I was thinking about getting one of these expansion ports:

MOH from RCA jack?
Been around asterisk for two-plus years, but need a little input from the
list on this topic.
Have a potential client that wants to replace their old key system with *,
but they want to integrate a commercial message service (they pay a monthly
fee to have special MOH messages generated) into their system. The messages
are essentially delivered to this customer via older generation audio

frequence of patterns in a vector
Dear R users,
Suppose I have a vector that consists of characters like ABC, A02, RCA,
etc., and there are about 700 of possible characters. For example,
x <- c("ABC", "ABC", "ABC", "A02", "ABC", "RCA", "ABC", "ABC")
I'd like to get a frequency matrix that looks something like this:
ABC 6
A02 1
RCA 1

USB audio on Centos-7
I'm using Centos-7 on my PC, with ASUS motherboard. internal audio
has always worked fine EXCEPT that I can never get audio input (for
recording) to work. I want to feed audio from a phono turntable and
from a cassette deck. I use a phono preamp for the turntable, or
directly connect the tape deck.
but either nothing, or low level with horrible distortion.

SV: USB headsets?
I don't quite follow you? There are USB headsets that don't require a soundcard at all. They have a built in soundcard which (I suppose) could be better than the crap they build into most laptops.

queue issue
I have a _very_ specific situation where I need queues to work in a very
specific manner - I need the queue to only accept one call at a time,
even though several phones are attached to it.
My memory tells me that queues might have even worked this way in the
distant past (pre 1.0)...but I am willing to be mistaken.
Is this even remotely possible?
