Unidata
I have been explaining the benefits of a Rails platform to someone, who
has replied to me with the following:
"On paper this looks okay but practically you will need to connect to a
non-relational database. The database we use is UNIDATA, this is a IBM
product. Just an example for our website integration we use REDBACK to
make calls and get the information we need."
Does anyone have

IBM UniVerse database adapter for ActiveRecord?
I''m facing a situation where I am going to have to integrate with a
legacy database , specifically the IBM UniVerse database, which is not
*quite* relational. It feels like a holdover from the dark ages of
computing.
Before I attempt writing an ActiveRecord adapter, I''d like to know if
anyone else uses this database and if I''m the only person that needs
this thing. I

netcdf
Has anyone experimented with the Network Common Data Format (netcdf)
described at
http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/packages/netcdf
for archiving data?
Is this format widely used outside of atmospheric research?

SS7 signaling/Softswitch
I'm confused a bit about the following and was hoping to get some answers on
this group - What is exactly implied when we say asterisk can connect to a PSTN.
Does it mean connecting to the PSTN via PRI/T1/E1? If yes, then I assume
asterisk does not need to do any SS7 signaling and all it does (playing the role
of a PBX) is to connect to a Class 5 Switch at the CO. Is this a correct
statement?

rsync-2.5.6 build on Red Hat 8.0 fails
The packaging/lsb/rsync.spec file is broken as shipped: It has a "Sept"
month (rpmbuild here takes only 3-letter month names), and RH gzips the
manpages, so the %files list can't find them. I also added doc/README-SGML
and doc/rsync.sgml to the %doc files. Patch follows.
Thanks for all the good work!

Talking to other SIP hosts, wrong IP
As per my problem yesterday with the Cisco 7960 and getting it talking to
Asterisk on a different subnet, I gave up trying and just put the Asterisk
box back on the internal subnet.
However, I made two changes:
- the external IP address is set on an ethernet alias eth0:0
- the main Linux router will change outgoing requests from 10.1.1.2 to the
external IP (rather than the default behaviour of

R and hdf
Hi,
I've been playing with R for only a few days, so I'm not terribly
familiar with it yet. Has anyone ever done any work using HDF or
NetCDF files with R? Both file formats have libraries which can be
linked to a program to read and write data to these formats. Is this
sort of thing possible with R? We are planning to use the HDF format to
store experimental data collected by some

I am trying to use an ICW-1000G wireless handset connected to an asterisk

The user is working from an offsite location and it appears that the
device is not sending out keep-alives or stun.
The manufacture is not being of assistance at all. I am wondering if
anyone has worked with these units or has any ideas of what I could do to
make them work.

Cisco SPA3102 Thoughts & Other Recommendations
I'm looking to build a VoIP solution for 100+ service vehicles that have
WiFi hot spots installed (with cellular uplinks). Currently we are
trying out Skype wireless handselts and Majick Jack. I'd also like to
consider an Open Source solution that can bring the calls back to our
data center [possibly integrated without our existing BCM 3.x VoIP
PBX].

Dovecot 2.0 b13e01d82083
Hello,
I was trying to compile Dovecot 2.0 b13e01d82083, and I found this when
doing make:
Making all in lib
test -f UnicodeData.txt || wget
http://www.unicode.org/Public/UNIDATA/UnicodeData.txt
/bin/sh: wget: not found
I think it's probably not the best idea to assume everyone has wget
installed. Perhaps it is installed by default on linux, but probably not
on all other platforms. Why not
