Has anyone experimented with the Network Common Data Format (netcdf) described at http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/packages/netcdf for archiving data? Is this format widely used outside of atmospheric research? -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- r-devel mailing list -- Read http://www.ci.tuwien.ac.at/~hornik/R/R-FAQ.html Send "info", "help", or "[un]subscribe" (in the "body", not the subject !) Looking into NetCDF/CDF/HDF is on my list to do fairly soon for xlispstat but I haven't gotten to it yet. My impression is that these are used a fair bit in the "scientific visualization" community, but I need to explore this further. luke -- Luke Tierney University of Minnesota Phone: 612-625-7843 School of Statistics Fax: 612-624-8868 206 Church Street email: luke@stat.umn.edu Minneapolis, MN 55455 USA WWW: http://www.stat.umn.edu -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- r-devel mailing list -- Read http://www.ci.tuwien.ac.at/~hornik/R/R-FAQ.html Send "info", "help", or "[un]subscribe" (in the "body", not the subject !) I'm going to have a look at GMT, particularly the map data base. NSF funded a big cleanup of the freely available maps as part of GMT developement. The maps are in a NetCDF database ...
