Will Echo problems EVER be solved, I'm scared
I came into this with my eyes wide open. I have read ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING
there is to be found on the net about avoiding echo problems BEFORE I even
attempted to create a production system. Since lots of people are
apparently using this in production environments now I just assumed that
echo IS avoidable.
As others have recommended, I created a test system with the proposed

FW: [Asterisk-Users, Andrew] Will Echo problems EVER be solved, I'm scared
Thank you for the suggestions Andrew. I have not come across some of them
before and will give them a shot. Based on my reading, changing the
motherboard should have minimal impact unless that motherboard and the
TDM400P don't get along (aka. IRQ sharing). I have disabled everything that
is not needed and I do not believe I have any IRQ problems and I am NEVER
wrong ;). Calls are crisp and

How to start ztmonitor in 'quantitative' mode ?
To start ztmonitor in quantitative mode you do the following.
Assuming you are running Asterisk V1.0.9 you need to edit one line to
ztmonitor.c in /usr/src/zaptel as per patch 2783
http://bugs.digium.com/bug_view_page.php?bug_id=0002783
Change line 261
fprintf(stderr, "Usage: ztmonitor <channel num> [-v] [-f FILE]\n");

RE: Noise on ZAP channel
I have a couple SIP phones on a PIII 1Ghz 256MB * server with a TDM01B
connected to the PSTN. Calls between SIP phones are clear. Calls to the
PSTN are quite noisy. The other person does not hear noise but I hear quite
a bit. It is not an annoying sound but definitely much noisier than typical
PSTN or even cell phone calls.
I believe I have a TDM400P REV H card. I definitely don't

RE: Is the 2.6 Linux kernel ready for production * environment
I was wondering what peoples thoughts are about this. It seem that * works
just as well on Linux 2.6 as 2.4. Maybe a few small issues here and there
but generally it seems to me that * is just as stable on either platform.
2.4 is the obvious choice for the highest possiblility of a stable well
tested environment but 2.6 seems to have some enticing benefits.
Can Linux 2.6 be considered a

Echo SIP-T100P-PRI
I'm experience echo on outgoing calls:
Snom 200 ----> Asterisk ----> T100P ----> PRI ----> called party
I am getting echo on the Snom 200 phone. The called party does not
hear the echo.
Since the PRI is digital, I don't really understand where the
echo is coming from.
I turned on echotraining, echocancellation=yes (128), and echowhenbridged
in zapata.conf, to no avail.

TDM400P not detecting hangup and not hanging up
Canuck15,
No, I hadn't played with the gains. But I've now done so and no difference
unfortunately. Thanks for the suggestion though.
I have discovered that after Asterisk has answered the call and the remote
caller has hung up, if I lift the receiver on a phone connected to the line
(in parallel with Asterisk), Asterisk then DOES instantly hang up.
Would it be reasonable to assume the

Processing hundreds of calls & faxes a day. No problem. If you are going to
use a Fedora box make sure you yum update right after install then the
kernel sources symbolic link is not horribly broken as it used to be.
Otherwise, just go.

Music on Hold Quality
Does anyone know how to maximize music on hold quality on calls inbound
from PSTN? I know that it is common to have choppy and static sounding
music on hold when connecting via PSTN but how can that be minimized? I
assume that the bitrates, type of music, etc can minimize the effects.
Does anyone have any experience in this area? Do you know where I
should look for more information?

RFD: With echo and other distortion, can ulaw/alaw line quality ever be good enough for faxing?
Folks,
I've been following recent discussions regarding echo and echo training with
much interest, since it's a problem we've never been able to eliminate here.
We're facing two challenges presently, and they may be related (or not):
a) Cisco 7960s in the office here echo back to our staff, but the customer
hears decent sound.
b) We've yet to be able to pass faxes through

zaptel wont compile errors on zttest
Hi all,
I'm unable to complete the installation of zaptel. I did a checkout today from cvs. When I do make clean; make install. It gives me an error at this portion of the installation:

Echo calibration with ztmonitor and a testlinefrom a telco
The value of 14800 is correct.
I had issues with my TDM400p with 2x FXO's installed and using the Xlite client. I could not get the echo stable at the initial call.
Changing to a hard phone made everything work correctly. I still had problems with the off location I called, but mostly worked great.
To see the TX gain I created an extension with the Milliwatt command attached to it and called

Proper use of echotraining=yes
If you have echo on the X100P's Mark setup chan_zap to pretrain the echo
can, but it had a few issues until today which Mark nailed down the bug
that caused the DTMF to be unreliable.
Ok here is how you would do it:
in your zapata.conf.sample:
; In some cases, the echo canceller doesn't train quickly enough and there
; is echo at the beginning of the call. Enabling echo training will

ztdummy compile again
Hi,
I'm still strugling with getting an easy to use conference system
implemented. I did have app_conference running, but today I upgraded
asterisk to 1.0.9 and it stopped working. I've tried following the
instructions for compiling app_conference on 1.0.7 but it didn't work.
So I went back to ztdummy (I've not had any luck getting this to compile
on FC2).
Anyhoo, I've

Effectively using a telco Type 102 Milliwatt Test line with ztmon itor -v to set txgain/rxgain in zapata?
I am trying to obtain optimum gain settings for a bank of analog lines
connected to a channel bank. My telco has provided a 'Type 102' test line to
use for incoming level calibration. This is functionally equivalent to app
Milliwatt(), but provides tone from the CO inwards.
Question is, how should one use this a 0dbm test source with ztmonitor? Am I
correct in understanding that a 0dbm

Building zaptel.1.0.9 on Suse 9.3
Dear list,
I am back with my problem compiling zaptel 1.0.9 . I am running SUSE
9.3, with kernel linux-2.6.11.4-21.7
I have the kernel sources on disk. YAST tells me they match the compiled
kernel.
