Cisco 7960 says "Protocol Application Invalid?"
I have been able to upgrade my Cisco 7905G phones to the SIP Image without
any problems, but I just got a 7960, and I can't seem to get to the settings
so I can upgrade to a SIP Image.
When the phone boots up, it says Configuring VLAN, Configuring IP, TFTP
????..., then Protocol Application Invalid.
I noticed on the wiki page "Firmware issues on 7940 - 7960"

Cisco and "protocol application invalid"
Hey all!
Have configured a Cisco 7960 with no problems, put up an TFTP server and it
downloaded new sip binaries ? all went well.
However, now I am having trouble getting two 7040s to work. Basically, my
problem is the above stated error message. If I had any entries in the TFTP
logfile, I could probably solve this problem. But the thing is, it just
doesn?t look as if the phones are

Re: specified network name no more available
I was stung by this bug yesterday myself and although
there are numerous references to this error message
I haven't seen any qualified resolution of the problem.
Not that the following rant hopes to be such, but it's
a good story.
My setup is a stable 2.2.8a production domain and an
experimental 3.0.2a-SuSE domain. The passwd backend is
still smbpasswd. I wish there were a better

Is it possible to use spandsp and patton to do fax2mail ?
Hi,
I succesfully install spandsp chan_misdn and digium card. the rxfax works
fine and I get the fax result by email.
I would like to do the same using a Patton gw + zaptel but I can't receive

the call comes in from ISDN in the Patton gw, patton sends it to asterisk,
asterisk run a macro to make a tif file using rxfax,
the tif file is correctly created but with a 0 size the call

Cisco 7912G SIP phone and Asterisk double RTP packets
Hi there,
i did some tests with two Cisco 7912G phones (SIP stack) yesterday. With
both ethereal and tcpdump listening on the Asterisk-Server's NIC, it
came up that all RTP packets were doubled, with some small but almost
constant delay (~460 us).
The setup is
7912G <--> ASTERISK <--> 7912G
The tcpdump output shows RTP traffic ASTERISK --> 7912G:
000000 IP $ASTERISK.17944

cisco 7940g, 7960g phone screen sizes?
Anyone have screen size + resolution for the cisco 7940g, 7960g?
I'm having a hard time finding it anywhere. No vendors have the
information and cisco doesn't list it.
All I've been able to find is the rez of the 7940g : 100x145.

IAXy and DHCP
Hi,
I've got an IAXy, and provided it with connection
data - unfortunately didn't provide a fixed ip address,
but left with dhcp.
Everthing went fine, and I could work a while with it.
After a restart of IAXy, it didn't negotiate a new
IP address, nor used the old one. I even restarted
the DHCP server and cleared its cache. No success.
I went to another office with a different

Cisco 7940G
Hi,
We've got a customer site with Cisco 7940G Phones connecting to our Asterisk
Server via SIP.
However, upon running a "sip show peers" it states that the phone is :
user/user (Unspecified) D 255.255.255.255 0 Unmonitored
All phones can call out via our Asterisk Server fine regardless. The problem is
when they try and place a call to one another, where it

Cisco 7940G/7960G SIP phones local echo on * box.
Our new * server with Cisco SIP phones is now working pretty well. But we
still have one problem that has not been resolved.
The Cisco SIP phones have a consistent echo. It sounds like about a 500ms
delay. This echo is not heard from the POTS side. It is heard when
calling another SIP extension in our office. We are running 6.3 firmware
on the phones.
Any suggestions would be

Removing line 2 from CISCO 7940g
Folks,
I have CISCO 7940g phone. I have in the past configured the phone with
two lines. Having found the 2nd line wasn't much use, I want to remove
it from the config. I have taken it out of the SIP config file that is
TFTPd to the phone but it is still showing on the phone and it is still
trying to log into Asterisk with that account. I have tried removing
the config line and blanking

Time/Date missing on Cisco 7940G and 7960G SIP phone display
When we were first installing these SIP phones, the time and date was
displayed on the top status line. Firmware version 6.3. Using dhcp, tftp,
http, and ntp servers for configuration all on the LAN (* box).
Now that we have these working with *, the time/date display is missing.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

Cisco IP Phone 7940G.
Hello I recently get a Cisco 7940G IP Phone and I try to make several
things with it and I en counted many difficulties:
1.) I tried to unlock the phone and to set manually IP Address,
Netmask, Gateway etc. I don't get any luck.
2.) I tried to upgrade firmware like they said with tftp server... I
downloaded: P0S3-08-11-00.zip and I uncompressed the files in tftpboot
directory.
I don't get

Cisco 7940g Firmware load problems
I have a Cisco 7940G IP Phone. I am trying to load the firmware to SIP 3.2. The Phone just hangs in Defaulting CM to TFTP Server. It doesn't do anything else after that. I also have two other 7940g's that are the Universal Application Loader mode and say Protocol Application Invalid. I need to know what I can do to fix both these problems. I am running Asterisk@Home version 1.0. I have to

Can vista client can negotiage smb2 protocol with the samba server?
Hi,
I have a specific question about the SMB 2 (or CIFS 2 version protocol).
SMB2 was introduced with Microsoft Vista and is a redesign of the older SMB
protocol. (http://wiki.ethereal.com/SMB2)
Is current samba 3.0.xx release (or samba 4 release) support this protocol
when vista client tries to establish session with the samba server.
What are the features or advantages of getting this
