ext3 and 64 bit addressing
Dear List People: I am doing some comparisons of different fs's and need to know where ext3 stands in terms of 64 bit addressing. XFS and JFS claim to be full 64 bit systems (though are there not still kernel limitations that would, for the time being, reduce the ability to use a full 64 bits?), what about ext3?? TIA iain -- === Linux and open source do threaten Microsoft at the server

Re: Problem with find condition and habtm relationship.
OK. This may help, but it will also make your head hurt. The basic problem that you''re running into is that you want a "for all" operator and sql doesn''t have one. Instead, you have to think of the query in terms of the logically equivalent "not exists not". Effectively, a proposition is true for all x if you can''t find a counter-example in

Urgent information (legal stuff) about the future of SAMBA
I am sending you this email because of an incident which threatens the very existance of Samba. Earlier today, the bnetd project was shut down to the DMCA. Since bnetd is alot like Samba, I figured you would be interested. Bnetd is a server that pretends to be a battle.net server (starcraft multiplayer). This server was created by reverse engineering the communcations protocol, just like Samba

I just want to point out that you're asking for help and you're [perhaps unfortunately] dependant on the good-will of those offering free support. If you want to get help that's more tailored to you and your desired environment, you can pay for support. Sernet offers

Help doing find - look for nonempty habtm
I''ve got a Cuisine and a Restaurant model, with a habtm. One thing I want to do is find all the cuisines that have at least one restaurant associated with them. Right now I''m using the following SQL query: SELECT DISTINCT(cuisines.*) FROM cuisines, restaurants, cuisines_restaurants WHERE cuisines.id = cuisines_restaurants.cuisine_id AND restaurants.id =

PostGIS and MySql Spatial Extensions in Rails
Hello, This post is to announce a new release of the Spatial Adapter for Rails, which is a plugin that adds support for columns of geometric types (point, linestring, polygon,etc...) to ActiveRecord. Currently the only supported databases are MySql and PostGIS. With this release, geometric columns should behave like columns of any other basic types in all areas: migration, data access, dumping

Bad news - my UPS has died. Good news - my UPS has died
My UPS died two nights ago. From the symptoms, including the fact that the event took the motherboard of my main machine with it and the unreasonable amount of heat the UPS was generating immediately after, I believe this was a genuine fried-brains failure of the control electronics, not a mere battery death. The old UPS (a Belkin FVC1200) has been packed off to a recycler, and the motherboard

How do you clean up this cryptic code?
So, I''m coding my school project in Rails. There are two models, User and Restaurants. I noticed that in Restaurants, when you use the belongs_to method, you could specify the condition of the associated table. There are a few types of users, in the user_type column of the users table - owners is type 1, users are type 2. So in my haste to hand in enough code, in the Restaurant model,
