Cisco 7970
I currently have two Cisco phones, a 7960 and 7970. The 7960 has a SIP OS
on it and the 7970 has a SCCP.
When the 7960 powers up it loads OS79XX.TXT, SIPDefault.cnf,
SIP000E3875266C.cnf, RINGLIST.DAT, and dialplan.xml. I have a Cisco
SmartNet agreement with the phone so I have access to download the firmware.
I recently purchased a Cisco 7970 phone and was in the process of

Is it possible to have a remote Phone work behind Nat without a VPN?
Hi Everyone,
Is it possible to have a SIP Phone work remotely if it's behind a Router
performing NAT without connecting the Router to a VPN? The Asterisk Box
will be in the DMZ.
Thanks
Dan

Quick Question
Apologies if there is a cleanly written and searchable FAQ that I could be
directed to. I have no problem to RTFM if I can find the FM...
Does Asterisk currently operate under RH9? I have IBM Netfinity 4000R
servers that do not support X windows under RH8.x and I prefer not to go
back to RH7.3...
BTW, where would I find a useful FM?

Are any versions of the Cisco 7940/7960 or 7940G/7960G phones compatible
with the 802.4af Power over Ethernet Standard?
Ok, I know the question has been asked before, but googling has turned up
several contradictory results:
1/ No - not at all
2/ Maybe - 79XXG will work
3/ With a special cable/dongle (a la wikki)

Cisco config 7940 via telnet
Hi,
Does anyone know if its possible to change configs on a 7940G remotely,
without having to reboot/tftp the device?

Thanks,

Cisco Support for 7940, Is this Right?
Hi all, Happy Wednesday!
Got a 7940G off eBay to tinker with and, per the wiki, contacted Cisco
about a service contract. Being just little ol' me, they won't deal
directly and blew me off (I hate dealing with Cisco, Nortel, etc as a
small-business person...)
Again per the wiki, I hit CDW.com and found CON-SNT-CP7960 for $9.14.
Looking for support for the 7940 (not 7960), I just

Cisco 7940 + no audio after MOH
Hi,
I use * release 1.0.9 with differents phones and softphone, i've got
a problem with my Cisco 7940G (last SIP Firmware).
Sometimes, when i but a call on hold, the caller has got the music,
but when i "resume" the call, then the caller does not hear me (and
nothing at all)... I must wait for 10, 20, sometimes 60 seconds
before he could hear me again.

Cisco 7940/7960 and voicemailmain not able to press keys after a hold.
I have noticed a problem with the Cisco 7940/7960 phones where if
you put your voice-mail box on hold using soft keys and come back
you can no longer navigate. I am curious if anyone else can
duplicate this problem. Happens reliably for me with the 7940
phones.
I use rfc2833 for DTMF. I would think it was a Cisco bug, but
for the fact that this did not happen with older version of

Cisco 79XX Phones
Hello Everyone,
I'm trying to add a Park Button to Cisco 7960G phones connected to an
Asterisk box. Does anyone know if this is possible? I'm concerned that
our customer will not understand that they have to dial #700 to park a
call. Are there programmable softkeys in the Cisco SIP software?
Thanks so much

Problem transferring calls between Cisco 7940 with SIP firmware
Hi all,
I'm having a strange problem with a bunch of cisco 7940G with SIP
firmware. The problem arises when transferring a call coming in from a
SIP account to another phone. The call connects, but for the first 10
seconds there is a situation with one-way audio, then it turns into a
fully working call.
I've googled extensively, but couldn't find much about this situation.

My Cisco 7940 is not registering with Asterisk
I just got a Cisco 7940G phone running SIP firmware version POS3-06-1-00. I
unlocked the phone's config, and using the soft keys, I entered the SIP
Configuration menu and keyed in values for Name, Auth. Name, ProxyAddress
(where I gave my Asterisk server's IP address), etc.
The result is that I can make outgoing calls from this phone just fine
through my Asterisk server, but I cannot call

Cisco 7940g Firmware load problems
I have a Cisco 7940G IP Phone. I am trying to load the firmware to SIP 3.2. The Phone just hangs in Defaulting CM to TFTP Server. It doesn't do anything else after that. I also have two other 7940g's that are the Universal Application Loader mode and say Protocol Application Invalid. I need to know what I can do to fix both these problems. I am running Asterisk@Home version 1.0. I have to

Cisco 7940 and PJSIP registration
Hi list,
I've been googling this issue and found some good resources however I am still running into problems with the following combo ... Here's my story;
- Asterisk 13.4 with FreePBX 12.
- Migrating from Asterisk 11 / FreePBX 2.11
- Mix of Cisco 79xx handsets, mostly 7940G's.
My problems started with (the very common) issue of the 7940 not replying to 401

Cisco 7940 and PJSIP registration
I?ve gotten to the bottom of this;
Seems that the pjsip.endpoint_custom.conf isn?t getting included properly, or my syntax is wrong.
If I put force_rport=no into pjsip.endpoint.conf and reload only Asterisk, everything works perfectly. Unfortunately, I?m using FreePBX, so it owns this file and my changes won?t persist a FreePBX reload.

Cisco 7940 Question
Hi all,
I know this is a stupid question, but it is one I've been trying answer
for quite some time. Exactly how many simultaneous calls can the Cisco
7940 have, considering you can be talking to one, and have XXX others on
hold? Using SIP, is XXX only 1? I've found documents in various places
indicating different values in regard to the max number of calls the
phone can handle.

Cisco 7940/7960 SIP functionality questions
Hello,
I'm considering using Asterisk with some type of Cisco phone, and currently
considering either the 7940 or 7960 because of its more-complete functionality
(compared to the 7905).
I'm currently wondering:
Do all the expected functions (transfer, conference, voice mail, message
waiting indicator, etc.) work normally with Asterisk over SIP?
What caveats are known about using

Calls being dropped - Cisco 7940 with SIP 8.12 image
Hi everyone,
I hope someone can help me with a problem I'm having with Cisco 7940
phones on the SIP 8.12 image. When I place a call from one of the
handsets, the call proceeds as normal for 20 seconds and is then
terminated by Asterisk (1.4.26.2):

Cisco 7940 SIP
Has anyone else had issues with upgrading from SIP 2.2 to SIP 4.4 on the
Cisco 7940? I'm following the directions outlined by Cisco. Is there a
trick that I'm missing?
Clues welcome.
