From: Johnny Hughes <mailing-lists at hughesjr.com> > IBM has since totally changed their thoughts with regards to GNU/Linux. Actually, their cut-off of Monterey had everything to do with their current change in strategy on Linux back in 2000+. Monterey was established before IBM's interest in GNU/Linux. After IBM realized that it could use an economical complement in Linux, it saw

From: Collins Richey > Sounds pretty religious-based to me. > IBM=bad > HP,Sun, RedHat, SCO=good. > OTOH, from some of your comments, Novell=better. Are you really that shallow? IBM is our partner, not our friend. Sun has its interests too, and has 5 different entities of focus, which vary. Red Hat is a tale of two companies, cut-throat business combined with GPL-analness (like

RE: pronunciation? -- loving CentOS doesn't mean you have to bash Red Hat
From: Martyn Drake <martyn at drake.org.uk> > When I did try that support, it didn't give me a favourable > impression. However, that's just my opinion. It's good enough that HP is losing lots of clients because HP (among other tier-1 OEMs short of IBM) is finding that Linux their support is sub-par. Even Dell and others are just farming support out to Red Hat. >

configure changes
I finally got around to looking at a bunch of patchs to configure.in, some of them from back in March. One from Carson Gaspar <carson at taltos.org> looked promissing at first glance but after many hours I just couldn't get it to work. Due to much demand, I have added optional PATH to --with-pcre, --with-zlib, and --with-tcp-wrappers. I have done extensive testin on --with-zlib, and

Samba Open Server 5 package?
Hello, I'm having trouble installing Samba on a SCO Open Server 5 system. I have gone over the Skunkware CD and the Caldera Website. I can find TAR'd versions of SAMBA but for some reason it won't let me start smbd or nmbd without giving me a core dump. Does anyone know either 1. why I'm getting the core dumps or 2. If there is a package install for OSv5. The reason I ask

Port to SCO Openserver with PAM enabled
Hi all, I'm writing to you becuase I have compiled PAM in SCO (now Caldera) Openserver 5.0.x, and when I tried to use SSH with PAM enabled, y realized that OpenSSH depends on the user to exist en the /etc/passwd, and /etc/shadow databases, or equivalent ones (it uses getpw...() functions to determine validity of the user). In Linux, the simlpe solution is to use nsswitch, but it seems to hard

CERT Advisory CA-99.14 - Multiple Vulnerabilities in BIND (fwd)
For those who are unaware... [mod: This whole bind affair has gone a bit out of hand. Elias from Bugtraq found "public" info indicating the problem. ISC/CERT were working on releasing the bugfix together with the fix. Now everybody is scurrying to get fixes out now that "the public" knows about this. As far as I know, Red Hat (& Caldera) made a new RPM, based on the most

Implementing Shares
Hi! I am using RHL 5.2 and Samba 2.0.2. I have the SAMBA acting as the PDC in the network where most of the clients are Win95. Earlier we had a Novell Netware Network and I decided to shift over to Linux/Samba. I am having trouble implementing certain shares. The exact problem is described below: I want ONLY 'nhs' and 'vhs' to have read only access to '/usr/iso9001/edp'
