VoIP service through Asterisk?
Greetings. I did some digging with Google, the wiki, and on the archives, but didn't find a recent conclusive answer. If this is answered in the wiki or archives somewhere, please point me to it. I'm in the process of setting up an Asterisk box for home use. I've got a X100P card on the way. I've not decided what analog adapter(s) to get yet. The only phone service to hook up

Asterisk<>X100P<>Packet8
Noob here, my apologies in advance. Recently my employer decide to stop paying for my home POTS line, so I ordered packet8 for a home line instead of another POTS line, since I really dislike my local phone company, and the POTS line without any long distance would cost more than the $20 to packet8 with unlimited US calling. Anyway, this whole thing got me started thinking about VOIP a lot

FW: FAQ missing info? Asterisk@home V 0.4
Just installed V 0.4 of asterisk@home Programmed up 3 sip budgetone extensions, they call call each other fine. Tried to dial '9' for an outside line through an X100P to a packet8 ATA but got 'all circuits are busy now'. Here is the console output. == Spawn extension (from-internal, h, 1) exited non-zero on 'SIP/30-8d25' -- Executing

Outlook dialing
The bar is getting raised yet again http://www.voipmonitor.net/2007/06/05/New+Features+And+Services+For+Pack et8+Virtual+Office.aspx I personally use Snapanumber $30 or there abouts (after trialing a few other TAPI solutions and finding them sub-par) and think it's a great product but interesting to see how more people are expecting desktop/phone integration applications. Does anyone

porting numbers away from packet 8?
Does anyone know if it's possible to port a number AWAY from packet8? I've been with them for 2 years and really want to move to an IAX based service so I can have more than 1 incoming line at a time. Cheers, Dean -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Packet8 integration into Asterisk?
Hi John, I've been using Packet8 via a physical ATA and XP100 card for some time. As far as I know it is not possible to connect to the Packet8 service without the ATA. If this is not the case I would be very interested to hear this. In addition since moving to the USA I now only have a single packet8 line into my asterisk box (I used to have this and a 2nd regular pstn line) I used to be

Vonage <---> Asterisk Working Config!
Hi Nitesh, check out my config that I have for the Faktortel config in the asterisk@home sourceforge forum, you'll probably be able to work out how to set it up from there. Am I missing something really basic here?????helpwith Asterisk@home {Scanned}
Ok, I thought the point of asterisk@home was that it automatically detected the X100P board and configured it correctly. Is this incorrect? You still need to modify /etc/zaptel files? And not just using the AMP configurator. There is no mention of this on the Asterisk@home webpage. Can anyone who has actually used ast6erisk@home confirm this one way or the other? Thanks, Dean

Can I interoperate with public PSTN gateways ?
Apologies if this is an FAQ, I wasn't able to find an answer googling: Will any of the public PSTN/VoIP gateway services (Vonage, Packet8 etc) interoperate with * ? I'd like to deploy a box which provides PBX service for analog handsets, and handles inbound/outbound calls via both analog PSTN lines, and, say Packet8 VoIP service. I understand that I can do this by connecting the analog

OT: List of VoIP providers?
I have been looking around for VoIP providers but have not found a good listing. Is there no "yellow pages" for VoIP providers? Google mostly returns services like Vonage, Packet8, NuFone, ect. None seam to be very reseller friendly and none offer LNP or local DID's for my area. Anyone know of a list (even a partial one) Jeromie Reeves

Vonage Linksys Router - Life after Vonage
I setup a vonage account last year, and cancelled it last night when I put my asterisk box together and signed up for a Broadvoice account to use with it. Now I would like to use my Linksys router as an MTA, but realize it is still programmed with all of vonage's proprietary information and I do not know how to clear it. I understand that just pushing the reset button will not do it.

Verizon-Vonage Lawsuit
May be slightly off topic, but I was wondering what everyone thinks of this latest ruling against Vonage? Does anyone really know what Verizon hold patents for, and could those patents possible affect anything in Asterisk? Who knows who Verizon will go after next. Total newbie here looking to do a VoIPconfer ence call?
Come to think of it since the DTA310 uses DNS to find the SIP server, you could setup a DNS cache and override the DNS entry for what packet8 uses (proxy2-eqix-sjo.packet8.net : 15062, over here) to point to the IP of your own SIP server? Kind of a hack but it should work as long as it's running on port 15062. I am very new to this so I don't know if there's a port standard for SIP

InfoWeek Article on VOIP
Here's t link: http://www.informationweek.com/story/showArticle.jhtml;jsessionid=JUEFVG ENEA01YQSNDBCCKH0CJUMEKJVN?articleID=165702588 The bottom line is that they compare retail VOIP providers like Comcast Cable, Time-Warner Cable, AT&T, Vonage, Packet8 et al. Their methodology seems sound. Their conclusion is that retail VOIP services don't yet match the PSTN for reliability &

Packet8 New Area Codes and Rate Centers
I received a message from Packet8 last night telling me they added some new area codes. I took a look at their new area code/rate center finder page and it looks like the added a LOT of new area codes. They now have phone numbers available in almost every state. The URL for finding out which area codes and rate centers are available with Packet8 is at http://www.packet8.net/about/areacodes.asp
