IP Phone recommendations?
Hey gang,
I'm looking at escaping from a Nortel Meridian CISC system to
Asterisk/Digium/SIP phones. I'm currently in the testing and proof of
concept phase. I'm going to need a SIP phone and don't want to
re-purchase and have "orphans" around.
We currently run Nortel 7310 phones and they work great.
I'm sort of overwhelmed by all of the different IP phones. I

Help! - Unintelligible prompts and music
I have set up a couple of test Asterisk servers and have never had a problem
with sound.
I've just done a fresh install on a dual 1GHZ PIII Asus box running Fedora
Core3 with the Digium PCI Dev kit and following all the various Core 3
How-To's. I can make calls ok but when any sound is sent from the Asterisk
box such as voice prompts and music on hold the sound is completely chopped

Qs about FXO/FXS cards
Hello.
I am going to be putting together my first * system using FXO/FXS
interfaces. All the systems I have set up thus far have been pure VoIP
setups.
The system I need to set up should have 3 FXO interfaces and 1 FXS
interface, as well as several SIP phones. I have noticed people
complaining about Digium's TDM cards - are these isolated incidents or
are these cards unreliable? I intend to

64 Bit Support?
I suspect if someone recompiled the module that handles the transcoding
it could take advantage of say a AMD64 bit cpu. Although I bet cache
has a big impact on performance with this.

Softphones and other VOIP PBX's
Background: I've been having some minor issues with our Sipura 841's.
Mostly it just relates to them being cheap phones.
One of the alternatives to buying new phones was using soft phones.
I'm curious what other people are using that works well.
I found NCH's SoftPhone Express Talk which is a nice implementation with
some decent features.
They apparently make a NT based PBX,

Sphinx
Hi. I just started trying to play with Sphinx. I followed their site as far as running sphinx-server. It is listening on the default port. I copied sphinx2-simple to another file and changed sphinx2-continuous to sphinx2-server.
So, I ran eagi-sphinx-test under asterisk. What exactly is it supposted to do? Here's what I get:

Sendmail with exchange
I am using Asterisk to send Voicemail out as Email. I am running into a
problem I believe to be caused by the exchange server requiring SMTP
authentication. I cannot get the sys admin's to turn it off. Does anyone
know enough about sendmail to help me. I am assuming that the default
mail client is sendmail. It will also send to other non-SMTP
authenticated servers. Your help is much

8 pstn lines+ on Asterisk supported hardware.
Hi all,
I have this project that requires me to use 8 PSTN lines and possible more. I was thinking 2 TDM cards with FXO modules.
The I got to read the "Qs about FXO/FXS cards" thread and that scared me.
Can anybody recommend anything that is known to work ok with no mysterious problems?
I was thinking OpenSwitch12 cards. What do you guys think?
Any help is appreciated.

MOH from RCA jack?
Been around asterisk for two-plus years, but need a little input from the
list on this topic.
Have a potential client that wants to replace their old key system with *,
but they want to integrate a commercial message service (they pay a monthly
fee to have special MOH messages generated) into their system. The messages
are essentially delivered to this customer via older generation audio

PRI Woes continue
System is built on a SuperMicro motherboard with Serverworks chipset, IRQ
is not shared. Have a dialplan that worked for 8 months without errors,
tried reverting to older release then upgraded to 1.0.3 stable release,
currently running on fedora core 1 kernel 2.4.22-nptl.2199 (have tried
plain jayne), telco says "it's not us", HDLC abort seems to occur when
when a Zap channel hangs

Asterisk automatic daily restart
To automatically restart Asterisk you can add something like this to cron
# Restart Asterisk PBX once a day to prevent any problems from piling up
10 7 * * * root /usr/sbin/asterisk -rx "restart now" >/dev/null 2>&1
or
10 7 * * * root /usr/sbin/asterisk -r -x "restart gracefully" >/dev/null 2>&1

TE410P card in an HP-Compaq DL380 G4 server
Hi,
Has anyone had success using a TE410P card in an HP-Compaq DL380 G4
server?
For me the card is detected fine, but the system just never sees an
interrupt from the card. I've tried everything I can think of. The card
definitely works.
Its Fedora Core, but we also tried a stock 2.6.10 kernel. We tried with
and without Hyperthreading, with "noapic", we disabled all the

Receptionist
Hi,
Quick question. With an old phone system a receptionist receiving a call
has 1 button to push to transfer calls to a specific extension, with
Asterisk, a receptionist would actually put the caller on hold, pick up
another line, call the extension, ask if the person is available, hang up
pick up the caller again and transfer. To me it's seems a long way to
simply do a receptionist

Which IP phone to use in Australia
Hi, all
I am in Australia and I have to setup Asterisk in few offices. There will be IP phones in each office and I must be able to call between offices.
I need actual handsets. I need "standard" handsets to be used by people. Those must support features like CID, call forward, etc. --- your normal office feature set.
Also I need some sort of more complex handset to be used by

Grandstream hold one way audio -URGENT
Hi all,
At our customer site i've installed one asterisk server with 20
Grandstream GXP2000's. Firmware 1.0.1.9. When someone dials the
customer, the receptionist picks up, and does an attended transfer (the
'grandstream way') to a collegue. Most of the times this goes ok, but
sometimes, when the receptionist puts the call on hold, and tries te
reconnect to the caller there's

8+ line receptionist only setup
Hi,
We are looking towards a 8+ CO line setup (20 extensions) in our office
but we do not want an IVR(auto-attendant) feature. All incoming will be
answered by a receptionist. I have read the multi-line configuration for
cisco 7960 thread in this list but that way I believe we could only display
6 incoming lines. What will happen to the rest? Does the expansion module
for the cisco 7960 work

Need some dialplan help for obscure user request
I have a customer who wants their receptionist to input the users' long
distance PINs for the because they use each others pins. I am having
trouble coming up with a way to do this because of creating a channel
between the user and receptionist, dropping the channel and its variables
and creating a new one for the actual long distance call. Any advice is
really needed.

SIP Phones-Receptionist Setup
I am looking at placing a system in an office with a central receptionist,
and phones for each individual employee thereafter. Could I use a Snom 220
with additional keypads to view if the lines are in use by the other
employees?
Fred is in sales... A call comes into the receptionist and they transfer the
call to Fred. The receptionist can tell Fred is still on the phone by
viewing the assigned
