asterisk freepbx difference or solutions..
Hello, for a long time i am using asterisk 1.6 with astgui.
but for production system i intend to use asterisk 1.4 which i think might
be more robust. And for a more developed service options i preferd to
install with freepbx.
But still there are big plusses and minusses for both system.
My complain about astgui+1.6 was..
For example there were no backup trunk config running on that version.Even

Quick Questions - IVR=Auto Attendant?
Are IVR and "Auto Attendant" interchangeable terms? They both do the "Press
1 for" thing. Sales is asking me how to word it and I've always used both
terms interchangeably.

Guide to Cisco 79xx
Anybody have a guide to the Cisco 79xx phones? One that I can give the 7 or
8 ppl in my office so that they can stop asking me questions. I was going to
type up a basic guide but then decided I don't want to reinvent the wheel,
one of you may already have one. I tried to use Cisco's guide but it's for
their own protocol, a lot of options are different or rearranged.
I need a basic

"Inband DTMF is not supported on codec G.711 u-law. Use RFC2833"
Using FireFly, all other codecs but G711 Ulaw is selected. But whenever I
place a call, I get:
Jan 24 16:07:06 WARNING[30654495]: dsp.c:1468 ast_dsp_process: Inband DTMF
is not supported on codec G.711 u-law. Use RFC2833
Umm, wtf? I thought Inband was ONLY supported on G.711 u-law.

Asterisk Training Needed in SouthEast U.S
I need advanced Asterisk training in the SouthEast area of the U.S; I don't
need to know how to install linux and Asterisk and compile the modules and
load them and such. I don't need to know what extensions.conf does or
sip.conf does;
What I do need is a better understanding of what every single little option
in sip.conf or iax.conf does, and I need to learn a lot more about all the

Question marks in Broadcast Messages
I'm setting up a NUT server. During testing, I have deployed it on both
CentOS and SUSE. I have both servers looking at two physical UPSs and
two "dummy" UPSs.
My NUT client is running on Solaris and is rigged to look at the "dummy"
UPSs.
As I toggle states on the dummy UPSs, the client correctly detects the
changes and throws a message of the type:

Linux/Samba vs NT
I was having a discussion with a MS person about the performance of NT.
I got this reply:
---------- Forwarded message ----------
By the way, I looked into that claim that Linux could outperform NT server,
and my source claimed that the test was done on different hardware (i.e. it
was rigged) and that Linux still loses to NT on equivalent HW, although "it
has gotten closer." Do you

Can somebody email me the Sipura SPA-2000 and SPA-3000 documentation?
I heard Sipura had really awesome documentation on the SPA-2000 and
SPA-3000, but you have to email them for it. When I did, they said I had to
get it from a reseller. It's been a while since I bought my units, I don't
even remember where or who they were bought from. Can somebody email me the
documentation for these devices? I'm quite interested in knowing what every

Need an Asterisk Expert for a Project
We have a customer that handles the billing for a rather large company.
Anyway, they have their phone system through us, Cisco 79xx phones with
Asterisk and such. They want us to build them an IVR system that can
interact with their billing system through XML and read back information to
the customer.
They want their customers to be able to call in, enter account numbers or
credit card numbers

R "sumo" package suggestion
r-help:
I have an R package suggestion. After spending
several hours the other day installing about a dozen
packages, I had an idea. In xemacs, there is a
"sumo" package which allows me to install a large
bundle of xemacs packages at one time (about a 120
modes including ESS). I think R should have a
similar bundle. It would be so much easier than
hunting/downloading/installing.

Background work
Greetings,
I''ve got a rails app which is basically an admin interface to a xml
dataset. Currently I''ve got rails rigged to call a function to spit the
entire dataset to file with every change. This would actually be ok, its
fairly infrequently updated, but when the dataset grows large the user sits
there waiting for it to dump with no feedback as to whats going on. Oh yes,

DHCP, the TFTP Server setting and the Cisco 79xx phones
The thing I dislike the most about the 79xx phones is that in DHCP mode,
they expect the DHCP server to tell them their TFTP server address. They
won't let you set it manually. So if I don't have DHCP server that gives
TFTP server info, which is most of the DHCP servers at out there, then the
phone won't be able to download any updates made to the SIP000*.cnf file.

So many Asterisk Patches - Which do I choose and use?
Ok,
I usually use the latest stable CVS, with no patches or modifications. If
figured if there was a worthwhile patch, Mark would have already included
it. However, there was that neat patch about being able to press a certain
key and it'd begin recording in mid-stream, that was an awesome feature and
I patched my latest features.c file with that patch. But I keep seeing
mentions of other

Bootstrap BCa confidence limits with your own resamples
I like to bootstrap regression models, saving the entire set of bootstrapped
regression coefficients for later use so that I can get confidence limits
for a whole set of contrasts derived from the coefficients. I'm finding
that ordinary bootstrap percentile confidence limits can provide poor
coverage for odds ratios for binary logistic models with small N. So I'm
exploring BCa confidence

[ESS] Process SAS is not running... error on Ubuntu
It does appear the ess package on CRAN for Ubuntu 8.04 fails to
install the file 'ess-sas-sh-command'. This prevents invoking SAS
