I am only looking for departments that will > fit into the string: > "press 1 for the DEPT department" or "press 1 for DEPT" the 'into' is what I should have been clearer about. I am only looking for words that will fit into the DEPT portion of the above strings. As you mention we already have press, the numbers,

Computing time when calling C functions - why does an extra function call induce such an overhead?
Dear list, I am a little puzzled by computing time in connection with calling C functions. With the function mysolve1 given below I solve Ax=B, where the actual matrix operation takes place in mysolve2. Doing this 5000 times takes 3.51 secs. However, if I move the actual matrix inversion part into mysolve1 (by uncommenting the two commented lines and skip the call to mysolve2) then the

Does any one know how to build a virtual network interface with vlan ID in dom0?
Dear all:     I met a problem recently.     I am using Xen to build my virtual network, and vlan ID is used to seprate different virtual networks. At first I built the network bridge with a physical network device with vlan as its port directly. Then my virtual host could send and recieve normal packets while these packets are encapsulated in vlan ethernet frames once they come into physical

graphically accessing pv guest
Hi all, I''m trying to expand the screen resolution of my guest when using vnc. It appears I need to use the extra variable in my guest config file and xenfb. I pass it in like this: extra = ''xenfb.video=8,1024,768'' I can see this being passed to the kernel when it boots but it doesn''t change the vnc screen resolution. I also see this when I type ps -ef |

speeding up a special product of three arrays
I am struggling with R code optimization, a recurrent topic on this list. I have three arrays, say A, B and C, all having the same number of columns. I need to compute an array D whose generic element is D[i, j, k] <- sum_n A[i, n]*B[j, n]*C[k, n] Cycling over the three indices and subsetting the columns won't do. Is there any way to implement this efficiently in R or should I resign to

callers who don't press any keys
I've noticed that some callers listen to our main menu and don't press any keys. I have it set up to restart the menu a few times and eventually hang up. I'm wondering if these are wrong numbers (in that case, why don't they hang up) or they really want to speak to someone here but don't understand the menu (what's so hard about "for the operator, press

not sharing IRQ's
I'm not having any trouble with interrupts, but here's my /proc/interrupts on Fedora Core 2 on a hyper-threading CPU and using the SMP kernel (2.6.5-1.138). I don't think I need to worry about uhci_hcd, nothing is plugged into USB, but libata is the disk driver. How do I get libata and wctdm to use different interrupts? $ cat /proc/interrupts CPU0 CPU1 0:

write.csv writing the "index"
I have a simple command to export a data.frame: write.csv(output, "TotalPredicted2008.dat") The structure of the data.frame can be seen with: > head(output) DayOfYear Sales 1 1 1429 2 2 3952 3 3 3049 4 4 2844 5 5 2219 6 6 2340 But it seems that the index is getting written out to the file. The first few lines look like:

Hi, I''ve read that Dr. Dobbs Journal''s last issue has a cover article about Rails titled "Ruby On Rails - Java''s Successor?". Quick Questions - IVR=Auto Attendant?
Are IVR and "Auto Attendant" interchangeable terms? They both do the "Press 1 for" thing. Sales is asking me how to word it and I've always used both terms interchangeably.

Direct MP3 channel Black Hole?
I'm curious is it possible to direct a call to an extension that takes you straight to music on hold, but NOT the standard music on hold. The boss suggested something he wondered if it was possible. Example: Someone calls (Telemarketer), we answer tell them to hold while we 'redirect' them to extension (Someone Important) 666 which is a separate music on hold pool of mp3's from

Non-normal residuals.
Hello, I asked a question about what the most likely process to follow if after a time-series fit is performed the residuals are found to be non-normal. One peron responded and offered to help if I supplied a sample data set. Unfortunately now that I have a sample I have lost the emai addressl. If you are that person or have some ideas please email me back at rkevinburton at charter.net. Thank
