OT: long - Replacing CD's? was RE: New type of copy-prot ected audio CDs are coming...
It won't be long until big labels attempt to eliminate the digital
ins and outs of equipment. The problem they face is most people
that currently use a rack system featuring digital interconnects will
NEVER revert to an analog only system. I know that I won't!
Think back to VHS, BetaMax, SVHS and LaserDisc.
VHS has incredible market share because its licensing is open.

I am using RHL 5.2 and Samba 2.0.2. I have the SAMBA acting as the PDC
in the network where most of the clients are Win95. Earlier we had a
Novell Netware Network and I decided to shift over to Linux/Samba. I am
having trouble implementing certain shares. The exact problem is
described below:
I want ONLY 'nhs' and 'vhs' to have read only access to

rsync to a port other than 22
I am trying to use rsinc to tranfer my ftp directory from one server to
another. I have port 22 closed off due to port knocking and I am trying
to direct rsync to use another port. Unfortunately I can't seem to get
it to use the specified port. Here is my command, if someone could
point out my error I would appreciate it:
rsync -avr --port=XXX xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:/var/ftp /var/ftp

new MS codecs
I thought this might be interesting to you, it's an
extract from the latest streaming media newsletter, I
was intrested to note that MS are claiming cd quality
audio at 48kbps whichi is obviously very low, I didn't
think much of it at first because nobody uses MS
codecs for audio anyway! However (a bit I missed off
this quote by the look of it) I then read mention of
portable audio players

retransfer fail of large files with inplace and broken pipe
Hi,
i have to tranfer large files each 5-100 GB (mo-fri) over dsl line.
unfortunately dsl lines are often not very stable and i got a broken pipe error.
(dsl lines are getting a new ip if they are broken or at least after a
reconnect every 24 hours)
i had a script which detect the rsync error and restart the transmission.
this means that if a file has transfered e.g. 80 % i start again from

But how do you play all your old VCR tapes? As I said, I want to burn them

Samba 3.2 PDC - Creating Zone Identifier files and not able to read/write/delete them.
Hello,
I use a Suse 11.0 as a Samba 3.2 PDC. The clients run XP SP3. I have
upgraded a few weeks ago from Suse 10.3 and now all files tranfer that I do
- for example, downloading a file using a web browser - it leaves a trash
file named "transferd-file:Zone.Identifier" or "tranferd-file:encryptable".
The odd thing is that from Windows I can`t read/write/delete these files.

C API: How to get a seektable for very long files?
I think there is another major issue for me: In
METADATA_BLOCK_STREAMINFO the field for the length is only 36 bit,
that's not even half an hour at 40 MHz sample rate, resulting in that
the encoder sets it to 0 for longer captures. In the seekpoint the
sample number is 64 bit, which is more than enough.
But how does the decoder handle the seektable when the total number of
samples is unknown?
