EZ-Install
Has anyone thought about an ISO file that could be used to make a CD for a bootable install for a "basic" Linux/Asterisk system? Just re-boot and config. -- James Taylor jltaylor@metrotel.net 903-793-1953 --

Google newsgroup or Forum setup.
I am sure this has been asked before, but why not use Google newsgroup or at least some forum BBS software instead of this cumbersome mailing list process? -- Costas Menico Meezon Software Corp 201-224-8111 costas@meezon.com --

Asterisk on Cygwin?
Hey all, quick question: does asterisk work okay in a Cygwin environment? I want to install it on my cygwin setup for local testing/demoing and save me the hassle of using a pure linux machine........ As long as it doesn't take a huge huge performance hit from running out of Cygwin, then I'll have a go there for a start confirmation appreciated! thanks -- C h r i s E a r

Cisco CallManager Image for 7940/7960
Does anyone have the .bin file(s) to convert a Cisco 7940/7960 back to the CallManager image? I want to start playing around with the chan_skinny addition, but it seems the .exe's from cisco want to open a connection to a SQL server or CallManager (which I don't have).

Cisco 7960s
Cisco should really be ashamed of this product... While it is physically well constructed, and has excellent sound quality along with a very pleasant user interface, the device has SERIOUS stability issues, unless you run your network with an iron fist... Quite by accident, while configuring my Asterisk system to connect to a Cisco 7960 via SIP in a standard office PBX type arrangement, I

Cisco 7960 SIP Craziness...
Hi All! First, let me introduce myself, as this is my first post to the list (I've been lurking for quite some time now). My name is Matt Hardeman, and I work for a software development firm in Birmingham, AL. We are interested in the Asterisk PBX and it's various configurations first as an internal solution for our occasionally bizarre telephony needs, and eventually are interested

list proposal
With the increased traffic as of late, I'm wondering if it is time to split the list again. Specifically I am wondering if it should be split along the various VoIP protocols and zap hardware, then leave a general list that does configuration other than VoIP related? The hope is that those asking SIP or H323 questions could get help from the various supporters while the main list can deal

G729 licensing
Hi, I'm looking for a good codec to use on a personal VoIP setup. It is strictly for my personal use, I'll never resell it, make money or it, or whatever. It seems a free personal-use G729 codec is available as a WIN32 library. I find it puzzling that at the same time one has to pay license fees to use it under Linux, even non-commercially. I was wondering -- am I missing something?

Hardware Vendors
Hi All! Can anyone direct me to any websites / manufacturers out there who are making small, put-it-in-the-closet-and-forget-it type systems for building routers, home gateway servers, that sort of thing? My fantasy machine for this purpose would be along the lines of a mini-itx system with external power supply, dual Ethernet interfaces on board, and one PCI slot available. If it had one

Connecting to Newsgroup
> How do I connect to the wine newsgroup?? > comp.emulators.ms-windows.wine /.../ > What is the server? You've got it wrong, those are not servers, those are newsgroups. You need to go to Google (for example) and search for something like "free news server". /Fredrik Persson

AW: Newsgroup - another try?
| I can think of two disadvantages of a newsgroup | | 1) Access | Everyone with an email address can sub_scribe to the R mailing lists. | However, not everyone has a news feed. I don't. Everyone who has access to the internet can also have a news-account. There are a lot of good free news-servers (most of the time hosted by universities), and on the client-site you can often use your

Newsgroup - another try?
As nobody seems to answer my request, I simply post it again. Is there any reason why the r-help-mailinglist should not be converted to a newsgroup? These were the advantages of a newsgroup I mentioned earlier: -) you can easily search the archives -) the discussion is faster (I experience that the R-mailinglist has a lag of about 1 to 2 hours (not for everyone!!!). When I ask a question, I get

Newsgroup
This morning I had 37 messages from the r-help list in my mailbox. I think its becoming excessive for an e-mail list. I wonder if whoever looks after this list could either move or gateway it to a usenet group? That would also eliminate the need for special purpose archiving and searching facilities since the site: http://groups.google.com would automatically provide that. That site also

R-help in a newsgroup
Hi, I find a lot of the R-help email traffic overloads my inbox. My IT managers are not really happy for me to be subscribed to several high-traffic email lists. I don't want to lose my contact with the R-help emails, so I'm having to consider various ways of handling the traffic. Anyhow, I'm wondering how many people on the R-help email list would prefer that most of the traffic

Re: Sum-up: Re-proposal: web forums
Hello, I have noted below problems that we can take care of, and those that aren't our problem, never were, never will be, impossible to be our problem, (you get the picture), because they are PEBKAC errors :) For all of those that don't know: PEBKAC = Problem Exists Between Keyboard and Chair.
