Mapstraction Sandbox & V2 push
Greetings from the day of rest after a week of Where. It was a great time out here - and there is a lot of interest in the community around Mapstraction. The new Sandbox (http://mapstraction.appspot.com) made surprisingly quick rounds and lots of kudos. It will be a great place to demo Mapstraction and encourage developers. We had a very good discussion about Mapstraction at WhereCamp. Pamela

Mapstraction V2 Architecture Demo
Hi all, I''ve been fiddling with some mapstraction architecture ideas and before I lose my mind (caller, calleee, apply, arguments, pop!), I wanted to share my progress. Please see here for details: http://www.thegecko.org/mapstractionv2/ I''m by no means a javascript guru, so I would appreciate any feedback you may have :) Kind regards, Rob -------------- next part

Panning map to a point vs. setCenter
Several map providers have functions to pan to a location, as opposed to the direct setCenter call. Panning animates the move from one point to another. To implement this in mapstraction, I created a panCenter function. I don''t know how to go about committing the change to svn, or who decides whether my naming convention is worthy, but I thought I''d share the function

Mapstraction v2 architecture demo - work in progress
Hi guys, Been working on this over the past few evenings and, although it''s not actually working yet, I thought I''d give you a first glance. The core mapstraction stuff is about 1800 lines with the Google implementation code adding another 500. Original mapstraction is 5353 lines so we''re looking at 5800 for this version if you were to include all provider

Clustering in Mapstraction
Hi All, I''m looking for a good example of client-side marker clustering with Mapstraction. It would be especially valuable if it was easily reusable code, similar to MarkerClusterer for Google Maps: http://gmaps-utility-library.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/markerclusterer/1.0/docs/reference.html If no such thing exists for Mapstraction (and I haven''t seen one), what are the

Mapstraction V2 Geocoder?
Hey all, I''m wondering about your thoughts on upgrading the Geocoder to use Mapstraction V2. Currently it uses the old syntax (i.e., for LatLonPoint, etc.): http://mapstraction.appspot.com/#geocoding Moving from V1 to V2 is fairly simple changes to the code. However, I wonder whether we want to update the way the geocoder is structured, as well? Some options: 1) Roll geocoding

How to use getCenter
Hi, I am starting to use Mapstraction with the openlayers provider, and I am not sure how to retrieve the current center of a map in a cross-provider way. i.e. currently when calling map.getCenter(), the result returned is the openlayers internal one, not the long/lat used when calling setCenter(). Is that the expected behaviour? Regards, Philippe -------------- next part -------------- An

Last push to Mapstraction v2
Hey everyone - how are things going? I wanted to see what the consensus was on last steps to push out the RC for the new Mapstraction architecture? Timing-wise, I''m speaking at JSConf in 2 weeks and would like to be able to mention the new arch (currently talking about using JavaScript to control immersive virtual worlds, but may try to switch to talk about JS Mapping) - regardless

marker.closeBubble()
Any reason why there''s no closeBubble function in Mapstraction? It''s supported by at least Yahoo (closeSmartWindow) and Google (closeInfoWindow). A related issue, but not as clear-cut: a bubble closed event. I know Google supports this, but I haven''t investigated further. --Adam

Can I use my own map
Hy guys, I was reading some information about your great service and I wanted to know one thing. It''s not clear if using mapstraction is possible to use my own maps (I create my own tiles I would like to visualize) or if just a service that wraps existing services. I f I can use my own maps, I wanted to know if you can give me a link or something that can be useful to get started with it!

mapstraction as org for GSOC?
Google Summer of Code has announced the opening of applications for Mentor organizations. Pamela Fox mentioned awhile ago that Mapstraction may be a good fit. http://socghop.appspot.com/ I would like to brainstorm if we have identifiable projects, and preferably even interested students, that would like to work together on putting in some applications. A couple of initial possibilities: -

Specifying sub-filters
Hello everyone. I have been looking at the filtering on Mapstraction and realized that it does not allow for sub-filters. I have modified the applyFilter function to accommodate sub filters. for example if I wanted to filter all houses that are blue and green and also all warehouses irrespective of color now I can use map.addFilter(''Type'', ''eq'', { pFilter:

Bird''s Eye integration in Mapstraction
Are there any plans to integrate Virtual Earth''s Bird''s Eye view to mapstraction? I tried an "integration hack" but then found out that there are too many issues involved (check whether birds eye is available for the current map area, disabling zoom controls,...). Has anyone else tried it? Franz

Using ym4r/mapstraction''s cluster.js with RJS
Hey all, This is a little OT but ... I''m trying to use this the YM4R/mapstraction clusterer with RJS but having a hard time, I can create a working cluster when i initiate it in a controller, but not from RJS. For the proper flow in my app it would be very helpful to be able to do it from RJS. Thanks for the help, Chuck -- *Chuck Fletcher* Email: chuck at chuckfletcher.com

OpenSpace support for mapstraction
Attached is patch to provide support for OpenSpace in mapstraction. A demo can be seen at http://yvonnesplants.co.uk/openspace_demo.html. Note that OpenSpace seems sometimes to have a problem with links clicked from email. If you get an error ''HTTP referrer not valid'' then open a new browser window and paste in the link and it should be ok. The following features are not
