Slow terminal response Centos 7.7 1908
Hey! I have a strange condition in one of the servers that I don't where to start looking. I login to the server via SSH (cant doit any other way) and anything that I type is slow HTTP sessions timeout waiting for screen redraw. So, the server is acting "slow". server is bare metal. no virtual services. no alarms in the disk raid note: server was restarted because of power failure.

count of active tcp sockets?
Hi List, Is there an easy way to get a count of the number of active socket connections, or even better, number of socket connections in the time_wait state? (Something lightweight... under /proc/sys/net/ipv4/? I'd like to avoid the impact of listing out all the connections a-la netstat.) Thanks! -Jeff

samba performance metrics
Hi, I am attempting to write a monitor to gather Samba Server performance metrics. I would like to get raw metrics directly from the server itself rather than a 3rd party tool. Could anyone point me to docs or enlighten me on how to accomplish this? I am looking to determine the availability of the server (up or down), the number of files requested, any caching information available

USB Disk
I put a new server together with CentOS 4. This server is doing a number of functions including ntp, mail, and web server. I had a USB drive plugged in and it was working great. I could access it at /media/usbdisk and I copied lots of data to it. I felt the server was "complete" so I wanted to move it. I shut it down, moved it, etc. Everything is ok, except that I cannot access the

Find reason for heavy load
My Centos 5 server has seen the average load jumped through the roof recently despite having no major additional clients placed on it. Previously, I was looking at an average of less than 0.6 load, I had a monitoring script that sends an email warning me if the current load stayed above 0.6 for more than 2 minutes. This script used to trigger perhaps once an hour during peak periods. Even so, I

Monitoring and statistics through libvirt
Hi folks, is it possible to monitor and gather statistics in realtime (CPU, memory, HDD, network, ... - something like dstat) of guest systems with libvirt through console from host system (KVM based)? If yes, do those guests need to be created through libvirt? Thanks for your help and time.

Mail delivery failing with 450
I'm not sure why this started, but apparently I'm having a DNS problem. Yesterday mail started bouncing with this error: 450 Unable to find obrien-pifer.com I think the messages eventually get delivered, but not sure. I guess I'll see if this one makes the list. I checked my domain using http://www.checkdns.net/ and it gives me a couple warnings. One is that there's no MX

kworker 100% of single core on mulit-core processor usage inquiry
Greetings everyone. I am experiencing the kworker issue where a kworker is using 100% of a given core. This behavior was only observed after having installed a new water cooler, to replace a cooler that had died. (Sealed closed loop device from Corsair) The processor is staying around 40 degrees celsius as reported by the MB UEFI interface. (ksysguard shows between 29 degrees and 30 degrees,

Distribution Diversity at Shorewall.net
Since RedHat announced the discontinuence of RedHat Linux, I''ve been diversifying shorewall.net. The systems here now are as follows: a) Firewall -- Debian testing (Installed using the Sarge online installer). b) File Server -- SuSE 9.0 Professional c) Desktop -- Mandrake 9.0 d) Web/Mail -- RedHat 9.0 I think that I will wait until I can afford to build a new

Slow fsck on adaptec SAS/SATA raid
I'm trying to do an fsck on an ext3 partition but I'm seeing abysmally slow disk throughput; monitoring with "dstat" (like vmstat) shows ~1200-1500KB/s throughput to the disks. Even with 24hrs of fsck-ing I only get ~3% (still in pass1). The filesystem is ext3 running "e2fsck -C0 /dev/sda3" and about 3.7TB on an x86_64-based system with 4GB RAM. e2fsprogs is 1.41.9.

Print configuration question?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Actually determined this was a CUPS issue. I split the CUPS and Samba servers, system load on the Samba box now averages about 0.3 while load average on the CUPS system is about 0.8 or 1. Clarification Needed: DAG vs. rpmforge.
Dag in the thread about kvirc, I had pointed to dries repo, based on a list of repos I use *now*, that replaced your repo with rpmforge. This based on an instruction earlier that I should use rpmforge instead. So when I run my "yum --enablerepo=\* list...", it did not show your repo contents. Should I be including *both* rpmforge and dag? TIA Bill -------------- next part

Disabling Firewall/iptables on CentOS 7??
I apologize if this has been asked and answered, but I googled and attempted things for several hours today without success. I have a freshly installed CentOS 7 system that I'd like to disable the firewall and all iptables rules. Basically the equivalent of doing iptables -F In a nutshell I've tried the following commands, in many different ways and orders, but when the system

Interesting problem with write data.
Hi, Recently, I made a btrfs to use. And I met slowness problem. Trying to diag it. I found this: 1. dd if=/dev/zero of=test count=1024 bs=1MB This is fast, at about 25MB/s, and reasonable iowait. 2. dd if=/dev/zero of=test count=1 bs=1GB This is pretty slow, at about 1.5MB/s, and 90%+ iowait, constantly. May I know why it works like this? Thanks. -- To unsubscribe from this list: send the

GPLPV or other drivers for win2k8r2?
Hi. I have some new 64bit Windows 2008 R2 domU''s running on SLES11/xen_3.4.2. What is everyone using to get 1gb network performance on win2k8? I''ve used GPLPV on win2k3, but I see you have to sign the drivers yourself for 64bit. Maybe that process isn''t difficult, I only glance at the link from gplpv''s page. What is everyone using? GPLPV is about the only
