How to find your IP Address
Ok guys a quick newb question. I have been reading up on the Red Hat
Enterprise 4 for dummies book along with installing and playing with the
configurations of Cent OS 4. I have yet been able to find any information on
how to find out what your IP address is. I have it set to use DHCP from our
Windows server and I looked under the network card configuration settings
but can not find any command or

Thanks
Thanks for the help guys. To resize my screen I had to go through the GUI
part and change it but unlike Microsoft it makes me reboot in order for it
to take affect which sucks. The Ctrl Alt +/- does not work.
As for adding a printer someone finally gave me the link to the correct
document which showed how to do it. I received a link where you can download
the CentOS manual in PDF format:

Backing up CentOS
Can anyone suggest a good open source/free backup software that works on
CentOS? I was reading through the manuals on how to back things up and it
said do 1 of 2 things. Buy a 3rd party software packages or make one from
source. Well I have no clue how to do the 2nd option and I don't want to
spend any money so I figured I would as you gurus. BTW I am newb so easier
the software the better.

!!ATTENTION NEWBIES!!
I've been reading this list for a few weeks now and
I've given advice on questions that look challenging
but I've deleted MANY questions like these:
"How do I (easy question found in the documents)?"
Though I don't count myself an expert, I've known
enough experts to see that they _HATE_ it when you
don't invest some time before asking a question. I
too have

KDE vs Gnome
I think im using Gnome but im not sure. As for using logout command it
didn't work that's why I got puzzled and had to ask online since I couldn't
find the GUI one which was there but apparently im too blind to see.
Speaking of GUI side of things that's why I made the comment about no search
features in CentOS. None of my menus offer a search feature in the GUI so I
would have to

[OT] - Why should I answer a Newbie question, therethick!
If you really want to do this the asterisk list is based off of mailman.
You can learn all about mailman here:
http://list.org/
But really, what are the odds that newbs will know to go there first?
Are you going to moderate it? Someone has to actually answer the
questions you know, if a newb only list is going to exist.
Look, don't answer lame questions if you don't want to. Flaming a

Is Rails a good place to start for a newb to the database world ??
I need to make a database that is searchable with multiple filters that
can be turned on and off at a moments notice kinda like java xhtml
dynamic loading..
I have not worked with php or mysql much more than basic scripts running
and website defaults. so I am new to the racket and want to pick
something that is robust and

Newbie question on VAD
Hi,
I'm interested in speech recognition and it occurred
to me to try to use VAD to automatically detect the start of speech
prior to feeding the stream to the recognition engine.
Speex has a preprocessor capability which presumably could be
used for this, but I did not see similar in my quick perusal of Opus
docs.
First, is this is a dumb idea for some reason? If not, should I just use

large dataset - confused
I'm trying to load a dataset into R, but I'm completely lost. This is
probably due mostly to the fact that I'm a complete R newb, but it's got me
stuck in a research project.
I've tried just opening the text file in WordPad and copying the data
directly into R, but it's too big and causes the program to crash.
Any suggestions or assistance? I'm kinda desperate and

Emphasis or Italic?
What's the difference between:
<em>emphasis</em> and <i>italicized</i>
and
<strong>strong</strong> and <b>bold</b>
It seems to subtle for my browsers.
The only "difference" I've been able to find is that according to the
O'Reilly book <strong> and <emphasis> are semantic tags, while <b> and <i>

Asterisk 1.4 and Cepstral
Greetings,
I've recently upgraded from Asterisk 1.2 to 1.4. I've been searching for
a solution, but am also trying the easy way at the same time. I've now
got David of Cepstral now speaking using app_swift from
http://www.mezzo.net/asterisk/app_swift.html .
The problem is, he sounds way worse than he did when it was asterisk
version 1.2. I'm seriously considering either

Specify ID for a form?
Hi all,
I have a a really, really dumb Newb question... I am trying to use
observe_form to use AJAX calls in order to refresh a particular page
fragment using the form data.
I have run into a stumbling block very early on in the process - how can I
provide an ''id'' attribute to the form_remote_tag or start_form_tag methods?
Specifying something like :id =>

Oddness with fieldnames containing an underscore
Hi all,
I''m not sure if this is a cucumber or webrat thing given that I only
starting tinkering with both last night for the first time (testing
newb as well), but I''ve come across an oddity when trying to write a
scenario to create a user.
Scenario: Register new user

Merge, Compact Ofuscate or Compress Javascript Lib ?
Hi !,
A little question about JS Lib manipulation...
- I found that DOJO toolkit gives a DOJO Compressor jar file to
compress JavaScript
http://dojotoolkit.org/docs/compressor_system.html
- On the other hand there''s no docs in Prototype or Scriptaculous and
prototype files are merged.
Why ???
1. Compacting file will reduce bandwidth but is it useful with a
server that gzip .js ?

So i ask especially him whether the statement
