dovecot memory consumption beta vs. old "stable" series
Hi! I just wanted to know if anyone can give a definitive answer if dovecot beta's memory requirements are much better than in the old pre-alpha "stable" series? I'm using a rather old stable.20050712 release on an also rather old Debian Sarge box to manage my personal mails. I'm pretty satisfied with this dovecot release but it's memory consumption when deleting

(slightly OT) syncing / migrating IMAP mailboxes
Hi! I fear this may be slightly off-topic but it's both related to IMAP and to dovecot: Is there any good and in paticular realiable program for synching / migrating one IMAP mailbox to another? The most important features for me is that a) no mails are lost / left out silently and b) the porgram is able to sync the complete mailbox including all folders without just giving up in the

Script to convert mboxes to maildirs?
Does anybody know of a script of a simple method of converting mbox mail stores to maildirs? I'm moving from an old pop3 system to imap and after installing about half our office with mboxes have found that mbox does not support subfolders which some people like to use. Is there any simple way of converting? I can go to each individual account and "manually" convert swaping data

entourage + dovecot bug?
I have dovecot set up to run IMAP services without SSL (I have tested many other configurations as well, but this reproduces the problem the simplest). When attempting to connect to the imap server using Entourage for OS X on a mac, I receive the following error: Mail could not be received at this time. The server returned the following error . Dovecot reports a successful login and nothing

Time just moved backwards error even with ntpd
Scenario: server PC abruptly switched off due to power cable problems (an UPS cannot solve this issue), so during shutdown Linux was not able to resinchronize the system clock. After a few hours the server come back on, Linux booted and the services (ntpd, dovecot and many others) started But the system clock was 45 minutes ahead, so: Jan 19 11:13:39 gw ntpd[2112]: synchronized to LOCAL(0),

Patches
As the freeze for Debian sarge slowly approaches I want to make sure the Dovecot packages are in as good condition as possible. I see there have been a number of patches since 0.99.10. I have added the following patches: * segfault when user home directory is empty * Proper PAM service name * Make suid work on 2.6 kernels Any other patches thatI ought to add. Or better yet, will there be a

Neuling

What's the difference between mbox and maildir
I'm a little confused about some of these terms. What is: .imap/.imap/ (other than directories) mbox INBOX (I think I have this one) maildir ??????? I'm not sure how all of these things work together. Thanks, Andy

dovecot won't compile for GnuTLS
Hi! I'm currently investigating a switch from courier-imap to dovecot since a number of our users experience problems with Outlook in combination with SSL. I can compile dovecot with openssl support and it runs "fine" except that the Outlook issues are still there. I read that dovecot works best with GnuTLS and thought that I'd try to compile for that instead. The system is

Sieve plugin
The Sieve plugin page of Wiki documentation (http://wiki.dovecot.org/LDA/Sieve?highlight=%28filter%29) says: "It's also not a good idea to build the plugin against self-compiled Dovecot sources, but then actually use a prebuilt binary package of Dovecot." Why isn't a good idea? Ciao, luigi -- / +--[Luigi Rosa]-- \ Every time you've heard someone say they saw a

Namespace Feature
I've never used namespaces and don't quite know what they do. If I add a namespace then do things like shared folders magically appear to users? Also - I wonder if this is possible. I'd like to create a write only shared folder. I know this is unusual but I have a reason. I'd like to have a folder that people can drag spam into to report missed spam. I want to write only so

Preventing IMAP folder removal?
Is there a way to configure Dovecut (version: dovecot-stable) to prevent the removal of an IMAP folder? We are planning on rolling out the @Mail webmail client to our user base in the next few weeks. This package has an internal Spam folder that we use to deliver spam into to allow our users to get to both their main mailbox and also their spam repository in one location. We are a Maildir shop,

Dovecot won't stay running
This weekend I upgraded my OS from FC4 to FC6. At the same time I updated Dovecot from 0.99 to 1.0.0. Now, dovecot periodically shuts off. It will run fine for several hours then just dies. Right now my solution is to run a cron every 5 minutes to see if it?s still running, and if not, re-start it. I?m also having trouble finding any sort of meaningful logs to tell me what?s going on. performance problem?
Hi, I'm running dovecot on a small server. I put all my mail from the last 10 years on it (approx. 160 mb). I'm seeing terrible performance. Sometimes, my client needs several minutes to display a message. This is with mutt, thunderbird and evolution. Copying an outbound message to the Sent IMAP folder (15k messages) typically takes a few minutes, but can be quite fast on occasion
