Hello everyone! How are you? Hope you''re well :) Here''s my setup at home: Internet -> (eth1) Comp1 (shorewall, DHCP, dns server, Internet sharing) (eth0) -> Linksys (wireless) ~~~~~~~~~~~~ (wlan0) Comp2 (eth0) -> IP Phone My computer1 is well confiugred, everything was working right and well. I decided to move the IP Phone to the COmputer 2. I was able to make this working by reinstalling dnsmasq and shorewall on Computer2 and sharing the Internet. But what I would like to have is that IP Phone can access Comp1 directly. Is there a setting I can put...? I don''t think shorewall is needed but I just don''t know what to look for. I tried to create a bridge but as soon I''ve added both interfaces, the wireless stopped working. Was that the right way to go? Was that the right way to go? >Interesting question -- I rather doubt that a bridge will work in your case because of the wireless link. The wireless bridge that I''m familiar with (the Linksys WET11) works like a router with dhcrelay -- that is to say, the bridge''s MAC is used for communication between the WAP and the bridge for all traffic being send to/from computers connected to the bridge. It is only for DHCP that the MAC of a computer behind the bridge is used (FWIW, I''ve never been able to get DHCP to work through the bridge) Example: From my wireless gateway system: wireless:~ # arp -na ? (192.168.1.3) at 00:02:E3:08:48:4C [ether] on br0 ? (192.168.1.254) at AA:CC:00:00:00:02 [ether] on br0 ? (192.168.3.8) at 00:06:25:45:33:3C [ether] on eth4 wireless:~ # 192.168.3.8 is a Compaq notebook yet 00:06:25:45:33:3C is the MAC address of the WET11. So I think that you would need a separate wireless bridge for your IP phone as well. -Tom -- Tom Eastep \ Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool Shoreline, \ http://shorewall.net Washington USA \ teastep@shorewall.net PGP Public Key \ https://lists.shorewall.net/teastep.pgp.key ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys. I''m sure the bridge is the good way to go, I must just do it before my wireless connections goes up! ;) Michel ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys. I question whether a Linux bridge will work in this environment. I use a commercial wireless bridge (the Linksys WET11 which does 802.11b -- there is also a WET54 for 802.11g networks). It is with that commercial bridge that I''m having problems getting DHCP to work. The bridge fails to forward responses from the DHCP server on to the computer connected to the bridge. -- Tom Eastep \ Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool Shoreline, \ http://shorewall.net Washington USA \ teastep@shorewall.net PGP Public Key \ https://lists.shorewall.net/teastep.pgp.key ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys. In my syslog, I see a DHCPDISCOVER and a DHCPOFFER, but no DHCPREQUEST back from the WET11. What is interesting is that if i connect the WET11 to a switch or hub and connect another computer to that hub, I will see that client''s MAC address doing the same DHCPDISCOVER, but the DHCPREQUEST is never made to the router/DHCP server I''ve never figured this out. In my case I am trying to bridge two switches via two WAPs. The first wap which is physically attached to the same switch as the DHCP server gets its IP with no problems. The second bridging WAP does exactly what is stated above when trying to obtain DHCP address. I gave the second WAP a static IP and all is well. If anyone cares, this was with two Netgear WPN802s. I am glad I am not alone. Scott ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys. Earn Cash. I wasn''t able to do anything regarding bridging since as you state Tom, it wasn''t think that way :) Thanks for everything ;) Michel 2006/8/4, Scott Ruckh <sruckh@gemneye.org>:> > This is what you said Kevin T.
