ZDNet reviews Samba 2.2
eWeek reviewed Samba 2.2 at :
http://www.zdnet.com/eweek/stories/general/0,11011,2712294,00.html
- they seem to like it !
It's certainly encouraging to get trade coverage like
this, I'm hoping the more people who report Samba use
in their organisation to press outlets will encourage
them to cover more Open Source/Free Software product...

comentator's article
This is an article I came across on zdnet.com. You may or may not
agree with it. Personally, I don't.
Anyway, here's the link to it. I thought some of you might want to read
it, and form your own opinion.

Hi all,
For people who are looking for some objective
numbers to help recommend Samba to their employers (I
know there are some of you on this list :-) you might
want to look at the following couple of articles.
The first one is in Smart Reseller (a USA trade press
magazine) at :
http://www.zdnet.com/sr/stories/issue/0,4537,2196106,00.html
titled : "The Best Windows File Server: Linux!".
It covers Samba on Linux vs. NT on a single processor
system (and confirms the rumours I've heard that Linux
+ Samba outperform NT with more than 12 users).
The second becnhmark I must conf...

Linux TCP flaw
Hi
So after reading this, felt I should apply the fix to a CentOS6 VPS that
I have.
http://www.zdnet.com/article/linux-tcp-flaw-lets-anyone-hijack-internet-traffic/
The article doesn't talk about CentOS or Redhat, but I assume the
problem is the same, and hoping the solution is the same.
However that doesn't seem to be the case.

Boot failed on latest CentOS 7 update
Questions re this statement in the ZDNET article --
"In all cases, users reported that downgrading systems to a previous
release to reverse the BootHole patches usually fixed their problems."
A previous release of what? GRUB2
So that's my first question.
Second. I'm assuming the the muti-screen UEFI settings I see a...

COURT solicited comments!: Was: Analysis of the Microsoft Settlement from a Samba perspective.
...everyone to send in their intelligent and informed
opinions on the matter. If some of the major
developer groups (i.e. Samba) would put together a
well-thought-out and easy-to-read commentary
on their concerns, maybe we as a community can affect
the process. See the ZDNet article for more
information." No forum for public comment is up yet
(first, the proposed settlement must be published in
the Federal Register), but should be in the near future

Issues with CentOS in enterprise
...ch affected by FUD created by M$. They tell the story like "you can not rely on this open source, it is built by just few community geeks, you never know what will happen if the developer will be hit by bus tomorrow" and so on. They especially refer to the last year FUD story published at ZDNet (http://goo.gl/y0LBi). So, IT guys are allowed to use open source only if they can prove that it has stable community and transparent development and build process they can reproduce on their own if necessary.
I guess, I'm not the first who encounter this issue. Could you share your experience...

the 'genre database' by using ordinary Notepad.
Except these rather minor flaws, I can listen to Ogg files without feeling
any inconvenience compared with MP3 files on Winamp. Thank you, Peter.

Wine WMF vulnerability?
Hi,
I recently read about that Wine is vulnerable against the WMF bug
that was recently closed on Windows. Is it really true?
Is Wine really as bug-for-bug compatible with Windows? :-)

Linux vs NT: a new test
Don't know how many ppl saw/read the following:
http://www.zdnet.com/pcweek/stories/news/0,4153,1015266,00.html
One of the comments on Slashdot was the question as to how well 4.4lite
would have done in the same tests, as they "theorize" that alot of the
problems revolve around Linux's IP stack...

about new Centos SIG distro releases
Hello,
Kinda confused, will CentOS new SIGs: CentOS Storage, CentOS Cloud, and
CentOS Virtualization, CentOS Core, etc be a developmental path to future
RHEL releases, or will they continue be an exact clone of RHEL, like
Centos currently is?
